Nina & Pinta Caravels are replica ships of Christopher Columbus's Nina and Pinta vessels that offer tours to the public at various ports across the United States. They use social media like Facebook and Instagram to promote their tours and share photos. The document recommends that Nina & Pinta Caravels start a blog on their website to document the ongoing restoration of the Nina ship and give insights into life on the historic vessels to help drive donations and traffic to their site.

Nina & Pinta Caravels Discovery Brief
Company Overview
Nina & Pinta Caravels are replica ships of the Nina and Pinta ships Christopher Columbus sailed
across the Atlantic Ocean on his voyages. The ships sail to different ports throughout the United
States. At each port, they offer tours t the public, giving them a glimpse into history. They
currently use Facebook, Instagram, and a website to promote their business and post the tour
schedule. The most important message of their brand story is to bring 15th Century history to
life.
Demographics
• Men & Women, 25 – 65 years old
• Income between $40,000 - $100,000
• Married with children
• Live in the United States near a river or ocean
• When they aren’t working, they are spending time with their family
• They may teach elementary or middle school age children
Social Media
Nina & Pinta Caravels use Facebook and Instagram. They use Facebook to announce their tour
schedule and give glimpses of their trip to each port. The Instagram feed is full of photos of the
boats sailing, people touring the boats, and the views while sailing to different ports. People are
drawn to this story because of its history. Everyone knows the story of Christopher Columbus
sailing across the Atlantic Ocean to America. It is a way for parents and teachers to teach kids
about our country’s history in an unforgettable way that brings history to life.
Long Term Goal
A long-term goal I think would benefit the business is creating a YouTube channel. Using
YouTube to create videos that educate viewers about the history of the Nina and Pinta, what
life was like in the 15th Century on a boats voyage, and what daily life is like on the boats today
would draw traffic to the website.
Short Term Goal
A short-term goal I think would benefit the business is starting a blog. Creating posts with
updates and photos of the progress of restoring the Niña after Hurricane Sally sunk it in
September 2020 would help bring in donations needed to complete the restoration.
What Works Well
2. Nina & Pinta Caravels Facebook page does a good job posting updates to the tour schedule.
They post photos of the boats, photos during their trip to the next port, what port they are
headed to, and the dates they will be at the port.
Summary
I recommend starting a blog on their website. Posting about the progress on restoring the Nina
would help draw donations needed to complete the restoration. Creating blog posts that give
glimpses into what life is like on the boats, the history of the boats, and maintenance that is
needed and to do it to keep the boat in good working order would help drive traffic the
website.
Examples of Content
Content that would be appropriate for the goals of this business is creating blog posts. I chose
blog posts because it allows you to tell a story using words and visual aids, such as photos or
videos, that enhance the story. It will also help increase awareness of what the Nina & Pinta
have to offer. News outlets write articles about the ships when they are headed to a port near
them. News articles linking to the blog will help drive traffic to the site and build awareness. I
recommend blog posts over other types of content because with their travelling schedule it
would be difficult to schedule weekly podcasts, webinars, and other types of content. Blog
posts can be created weekly and will provide information that will keep readers coming back.
