2. ABSTRACT
Digital image processing is one of the most
basic prominent tool using image processing
and computer vision. surface quality should be
regularly tested before using them in
industries. Traditional are not suitable because
of productivity and time taking.
This processing is done in matlab software.
3. ABOUT DEFECTS:
• Large surface defects like crack, cavities, porosity,
misruns, incomplete fusion, fins etc .
• Smaller defects include pits, bumps, holes,
scratches
• These defects can be find out using image
processing technique
5. Techniques used for image processing:
• A number of techniques have been developed for
analysing the image data in vision system.
Segmentation
• It is intended to define and separate regions of
interest with in an image.
Thresholding
• It is conversion of each pixel intensity value into
binary value representing it either white or black.
Edge detection
• It is concerned with determining the locations of
boundaries between an object and its surrounding
in an image
6. Feature extraction
• This method is designed to determine the features
based on area and boundaries.

7. CONCLUSION
To determine surface defects, length,
thickness, diameters using one of the non
destructive testing method called image
processing is very effective which give accurate
results and in less time.
