Unit 11 is called At Work. How many hours per week do you work? Do you get on well
with your colleagues? How many days off do you have per week? Do you know how to
say your job in English?
Let’s divide the week in five days and study one lesson per day.
Always review what was studied. This time spent reviewing will help you save much
time when new content comes.

On the first day, do the seven activities in Lesson 1 – Vocabulary. In this lesson you will
learn vocabulary related to work and professions.
On day 2, Lesson 2 presents six activities teaching how to use polite requests using
Could you / Would you. You might know how important it is to be polite not only with
clients, but also with your co-workers.
The seven activities for Lesson 3 come on day 3. You already know how to use
language to be polite. Now you will learn other models to express obligation and lack
of obligation. Then, there are more eight activities on day 4, Lesson 4, teaching more
modals. This time you will learn how to speculate about a situation.
On the last day, let’s take the opportunity to study the listening activities in Lesson 6.
You’ll listen to information about a woman’s work.

Our plan for this week is to finish Unit 11 and start Unit 12. Remember that whenever
we finish a unit we read an extra reading book. I’m sure you’re very familiar with this
reading, so no need for further explanations.
This week we are going to read the book Opal Town. People from around the world
travel to Coober Pedy, Australia, with hopes of getting rich. This town is full of valuable
stones called ‘opals’. Some opal are worth millions, but they are extremely hard to
find. What influences the value of an opal? What does it take to find them?
For each day we’ll have only one lesson to study, and on the last day we will review
what was learned in Unit 11. On the first day, study the eight activities in Lesson 5.
Learn a mix of modals and how to use them.

On the second day, study Lesson 7 where you will read a humorous article about what not
to do at work. If you do any of the things listed there, be careful! Just kidding! But anyway,
what are the steps for losing your job?
On the third day of this week study the four activities of Lesson 8 where you’ll watch and
listen to a video about how to become a butler. This is a profession that is considered old-
fashioned nowadays. One of the reasons is that there aren’t as many millionaires as there
used to be in the past to pay for a butler. Anyway, considering what you watched, would
you like to be a butler? Why or why not?
Use the fourth day to start unit 12. The title of this unit is Busy Lives. In Lesson 1, you’ll
learn vocabulary describing Henry’s daily schedule.
Take some time on the last day to review what was studied in Unit 11. After this, do the unit
end pages.

First of all, start preparing the vocabulary for the book Chuckwagon Racing. Every
year, over 500 cowboys and cowgirls gather in western Canada. They want to test their
rodeo skills at the famous Calgary Stampede. This year, two cowboys intend to win
one of the most exciting and dangerous events: chuckwagon racing! Which cowboy
will win? Will he do it safely?
On the second day start reading the pages of the book Chuckwagon Racing and divide
the pages of the book in three days of study. Besides this, study Lesson 2 – Grammar –
with six activities and learn how to use present time clauses.
Day three is to focus on more seven grammar activities of Lesson 3 and learn more
about present time clauses.

On the fourth day take more seven grammar activities in Lesson 4. Throughout these
activities you will learn how to use two-word verbs.
Well, the last day of this week is dedicated to the Listening lesson, that is, Lesson 6 is
to be studied on the fifth day. There are four activities and you’ll listen to two people
talk about their school days. Lesson 7 – Reading and Writing – will also be studied on
this same day. Read an article about disciplining children.
Also, on this last day watch the video and take the quiz for the book Chuckwagon
Racing. Who won the race? Did you expect it?
Yes, I’m sure you are tired, but the sense of achievement can make you feel happy.

Let’s have one lesson per day as it follows.
On the first day of this week let’s study Lesson 5 – Unit 12 with seven grammar
activities that will teach you more about two-word verbs. What time do you get up?
Do you eat out every day at lunchtime?
Day 2 is to watch and do the four video activities proposed by Lesson 8 – Unit 12
where you will hear and watch about stress. How stressed are you? What stresses you
more? Which kind of stress is worse for you – physical or mental?

Before going to the next unit, let’s take the middle of the week to review what was
studied in Unit 12. So, on day 3 do all the review activities in this unit.
Unit 13 is called Crime. Have you ever had to change your habits because of
criminality? How safe do you feel in your city? Day 4 has four vocabulary activities
related to crime.
Finally, let’s finish the week with the grammar activities proposed by Lesson 2 where
you will learn the past time clauses.

During this week we will read the book Killer Bees. The native bees of Central America
are important for farmers, the rain forest, and food production. However, a new kind
of ‘killer bee’ is moving in and taking over the rain forests. What will happen to the

activities where you will deal with both the past simple and the past continuous.
Take the third day to enjoy the listening activities proposed by Lesson 6 where you will
listen to situations talking about things that happened in the past while other things
were happening.

Take the first day of this week to review the content of Unit 13. It’s important to
reinforce and practice what you studied before going on.
On the second day we are going to start Unit 14. This unit is called Careers. Can you
describe your job and other people’s jobs? Let’s learn vocabulary about this topic
during the five activities in Lesson 1.
There are seven grammar activities in Lesson 2 to be studied on the third day. On the
fourth day, take the four grammar activities in Lesson 3 that teach you future time
clauses.
Finally, dedicate the last day of this week to listen, read and write. This way you can
practice what was studied in the beginning of the week. The listening lesson is divided
in part A and part B. Then, read an article about careers of the future.

Besides having to finish one unit and start another, we also have to read the book The
Life of a Geisha. In Japan, a young woman named Umechika dreams of becoming a
geisha and has left home to follow her dream. This mysterious Japanese profession
requires years of difficult training. What happens during the training of a geisha? Why
does Umechika want to be one?

Study the five activities in Lesson 1 on day 3 and learn vocabulary related to what we
find in big cities. On day 4, study Lesson 2 where five grammar activities will teach you
how to use for or since.
On the last day of the week study the eight activities in Lesson 3 teaching the present
perfect continuous and review the content of Unit 14.

Let’s take the first day to study Lesson 4. This grammar lesson teaches you more about
the present perfect continuous.
Lesson 5 is for day 2. You will have six activities to learn more about verbs and how to
choose the correct tense correctly.
On day 3 let’s study Lessons 6 and 7. You’ll hear about tenants in a building and read
an article about smart growth communities.
