The word “Entrepreneur” is derived from French word “
entreprendre” which means ‘to try’ and ‘to undertake”.
Definition: Entrepreneur is a person who comes up with new
idea and business opportunities in the market

The capacity and willingness to develop, organize and
manage a business along with any of its risk in order to make

Women entrepreneur is defined as woman or group of
women who initiate, organize, and run a business.
Women entrepreneurship is the process where women
organize all the factors of production, undertake risks, and
provide employment to others.
6. The business was started by two Close Friend “ Sana Hashwani and safinaz Munir”.
Brand name is “SANA SAFINAZ ” which is based in Karachi.
The name of Products are clothing and accessories .
These two friends are started the business in 1989 with investment of a few
thousand rupees.

Safinaz Munir: 18 years ago we went into lawn and five year ago we started doing
lawn totally on our own
Sana Hashwani: we worked for alkaram for three year and then we did a three
year stint at lakhany where we designed lawn under the SANA SAFINAZ by
lakhany tag.

Entrepreneurship in Pakistan
It is fact that Pakistan faces gender disparity at various
social level.
The country ranks 143 out of 144 in terms of economic
participation and opportunities for women .
This global ranking has been unchanged since 2015
because of the complexity surrounding the socio
economic factors like employment, business and asset
ownership.
Efforts are being made to minimize gender disparity
level in the country.
In 2014 ,only 25% of 90 million Pakistan women
actively participate in the form of labour.

From 2004 to 2013 the workforce gap between Pakistan and South Asia
market decreased. However the share of women in industry , Services, wage
and salaried work has decreased by 3.6%,4.6% and 6.6%.
The above mentioned decline in women’s work participation appeared at
time when adult women literacy rate was increased by 75% between 2005
and 2015.
Only 13% of women are able to borrow from microfinance bank and only
5% of women have a bank account in Pakistan.
This is because of fact that a low percentage of women have ownership.

The Women’s Entrepreneurial Center of Resources, Education, Access and Training for

Pakistan
Established in August 2014, promotes access to finance for micro, small
and medium – sized businesses.
Karandaaz is committed to breaking barriers for women entrepreneurs in
Pakistan.
The company has financial support from the Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation and the United Kingdom’s Department for International
Development (DFID).

Karandaaz has taken many initiatives in the recent past to improve the
state of women’s financial inclusion.
One such initiative is to research, design and develop an agent banking
model that will serve low-income women in partnership with Unilever,
Jazz Cash, and Women’s World Banking.

Punjab, has initiated three research projects through the Fintech Center to

Program Closed: March 2018
The first round of Women Entrepreneurship Challenge focused
on improving access to finance for women-led business in
Pakistan. Karandaaz Pakistan invited incubators and
accelerators to create a programme designed to provide
technical and financial support to female entrepreneurs.
36 women-led/managed businesses, were shortlisted to receive
customized incubation/acceleration through KRN’s. After
successfully graduating, the female entrepreneurs pitched to a
panel of judges; 21 women-led businesses were selected to
receive funding through Karandaaz.
26. Sadri Waist coat
sadri is the name of waist coat which is made by materials known as goll
shesha ,yellow,silver ribbon and piping and velvet cloth.
This velvet cloth is imported from U.S.A, JAPAN, AND MALAYSIA in a bundle
form called as Landa cloth.
This is hand made embroidery and is prepared by special skilled person known
as Sadri.
27. BOWL BASKET:
Bowl basket is the coil basket as name implies are
made from coil of grass. The leaves from palm,date are
wrapped and stitched to make continuous coil basket.
These bowl baskets are made from grass known as
Sur,date, mizri palm leaves.
These bowl baskets are prepared by D.I .KHAN’s women
and these are used for keeping wheat bread(Rotiyan).
28. JANDRI
Jandri is very fasinating hand made art. The wood
which is used in the preparation of these items are
shesham, kekar, Ghaz(khaggal).These wood trees are
found in areas like Pota, kulachi, chudwan, sarai-e-
mahajar.
In jandrii work four to eight colours are used. These
are coated in a layers in step wise. After every
coating(colour)scratching is done and this scratching is
known as chitrai art while making a design and this
chitrai art is done by special tool known as RACHHI.
29. Martaban
Martaban called as jar is made from coil of grass. The
date palm leaves are wrapped and stitched to form
martaban or jar.
These grass leaves are known as Sur, date, and mizri palm
leaves. This jar is hand made item from women’s bare
hands.
30. Kacha tanka
kacha kasheeda is fasinating hand made embroidery
item and this tanka is immersed inside the cloth with
small stitches along with special tool known as needle.
The threads which is used in kacha tanka are Reesham
and simple thread. This tanka represents on
dupatta,shirt.
31. Kundi tanka
Kundi tanka is also hand made embroidery item. In this
tanka the thread is immersed under the cloth along a
special tool known as KUNDI and embroidery is displayed
or appeared on the cloth. The threads used in this tanka
are tilla, Reesham, and wool.
32. Kashmiri Tanka
This tanka is a specialty of expert women. This kashmiri tanka is immersed
on the cloth with large stitches along with special tool known as needle.
The threads like Reesham ,wool are used in this tanka.
33. Tar kashee
Tar kashee as name implies is made by putting a needle
inside the cloth and push a cloth thread from the cloth in
which crannies are formed and filled by thread like
Reesham with needle. These crannies are appeared as
captivating design on the dupatta,shirt etc.

necessary steps to build skilled and experienced manpower that
will support the expansion of women entrepreneurship
development.
