2. Assignment no 3
Choose a successful and non successful add .answers the following question
about each ad .
1. Tell exactly what you see in the graphic design project
2. Analyze. Use at least two element and at least two principal of art to reflect upon
the design(element line,shape,form,colour,value,texture,and space).
3. WHAT IS A POSTER
• A poster is a two-dimensional, single-page format used to display information
and to promote people, causes, places, products, companies, services, or
organizations.
Most posters are meant to be hung in public places and to be seen from a
distance.
A poster must catch the attention of passersby while competing for attention with
surrounding posters, billboards, signs, and other visual material.
Like all other graphic design, the success of a poster depends on the right
combination of word and image.
4. What is poster
The size of the image in relationship to the total design format can yield a
powerful effect.
Promotional design is distinguished from other forms of graphic design because it
has the highest degree of persuasive intent.
6. Parts of poster
Headline – The main verbal message; also the first level of the poster’s “visual
hierarchy” from more important to less-important information.
• Tagline / Subheading – A short “tagline” or slogan that strengthens and
supports the main idea; it should be a smaller size than the headline because of its
secondary importance.
Body Copy –At least 3-4 lines of text that provide further details about the
enterprise or publicity. Body copy is at a lower level in the “information hierarchy”
than the headline and subhead, and therefore smaller than either of them.
7. Parts of poster
Visual – This poster will primarily include your own imagery created in Illustrator,
especially through tracing a downloaded graphic of your choice (see Project 13 for
how to do.) Scans of your own artwork are also acceptable. Photographic content,
although effective, should be a minor part of this poster.
Logo -Combination of type font and graphic symbol. This is optional but can be
added if you wish to create your own logo design for extra credit.
8. SYMMETRICAL AND ASYMMETRICAL
POSTER DESIGN
Shown below are examples of symmetrical and asymmetrical
posters. • Which form of visual balance will you choose for your
own poster design? • A symmetrical poster provides a stable, more
predictable outcome, while an asymmetrical poster, due to the
greater unpredictability of its composition, involves more viewer
attention as the mind tries to piece together the total effect. Notice
the different placements of the headline text. All of the headlines
are sans-serif fonts, although serif headlines are also effective
10. ASYMMETRICAL POSTER DESIGNS
Notice the strong left alignment of the poster shown above on the left.
• Notice the strong right alignments on the middle and right-hand posters above.
• Notice the different placements of the headline text.
