all the required information is included for the competitive exams and final board examinations.
2. Printer
• A printer is a peripheral device that produces a Hardcopy
of digital documents or images on paper or other
printable materials.
• Printers are commonly used in offices, homes, and
businesses to generate hard copies of documents, images,
graphics, and more.
• Printers can vary in technology, speed, quality, and
functionality.
3. Properties of Printer
• Color: Printer can print in single or multiple colors.
• Resolution: The quality of printer is measured in DOTS
PER INCHES (dpi).
• Speed: The speed of the printer can be measured in:
• Character per Seconds (CPS)
• Line per minute (LPM)
• Page per minute (PPM)
5. Impact printers
• An impact printer is a type of printer that produces
characters or images by physically striking an inked
ribbon against the printing surface.
• Properties:
• Produces noise during operation.
• Typically slower compared to non-impact printers.
• Can create carbon copies.
• Inexpensive: recommended when cheap printing is required.
7. Dot Matrix Printer
• A type of impact printer
• Known as character printer.
• A dot matrix printer is an impact printer that forms
characters and images using a grid of tiny pins that strike
an inked ribbon, creating dots.
• Speed is measured in Character per Second.
• 30 to 1550 characters per second
• 60 to 90 DPI, the lowest printing quality
• Can have 9 to 24 pins
8. Working of Dot Matrix
• A dot matrix printer consists of a print head with a matrix
of pins.
• When you send a print job, the pins strike an inked
ribbon, creating dots on the paper.
• By precisely controlling which pins strike and the pattern
they follow, characters and images are formed.
• The pins impact the paper through an inked ribbon, and
each pin corresponds to a dot in the matrix, hence the
name "dot matrix." Characters and images are created by
combinations of dots.
9.
10. Daisy Wheel Printer
• In a daisy wheel printer, a rotating wheel with characters or
symbols.
• When a character needs to be printed, the wheel rotates to the
desired character position.
• The selected character is then pressed against an inked ribbon,
transferring ink to the paper.
• This process is repeated for each character in the document,
with the wheel rotating and striking the paper as needed.
• It is slower than dot matrix.
• Its quality is better than dot matrix
12. Line Printer
• A type of impact printer
• Can print a whole Line at a time
• Its speed is higher than dot matrix
• Can print 300 lines in one minute
• Its speed is measured in LPM (Line Per Minute)
13. Non Impact Printer
• Non-impact printers do not physically strike the paper to
create images but use other technologies to apply ink or
toner.
• Preferred for high-quality printing in offices, homes, and
businesses.
• Faster than impact printer
• Do not make noise while printing
• High printing quality
• Expensive than impact printer.
15. Laser Printer
• LASER stands for Light Amplification by Simulated
Emission of Radiation
• It uses laser beam and toner filled with special powder for
printing.
• Uses special type of paper.
• It prints a whole paper at a time, therefore it is also
known as page printer.
• Can print 5 to 35 pages per minute
• Can print upto 1200 DPI resolution.
16.
17. INK JET Printer
• An inkjet printer operates by spraying tiny droplets of
liquid ink onto paper.
• These droplets are controlled by electronic signals.
• The ink is heated or forced through the nozzles, resulting
in the ejection of ink droplets.
• The combination of controlled droplet placement and ink
colors produces the printed output on the paper.
19. Thermal Printer
• A thermal printer uses heat to transfer ink onto thermal
paper
• Uses special Waxed Paper.
• Sometimes uses Heated Pins to produce printing.
