2. THE BEHAVIOUR OF LIGHT RAYS
● When the light rays reaches a surface four things can happen:
1- The light can be absorbed. The energy from a ray of light is
transformed into heat energy warming up an object
2- The light can be reflected. The light ray hits a material and
bounces off
3- The light can be transmitted. The light ray passes through
a material.
4- The light ray can be refracted. The light ray changes direction
when it moves from one transparent material to another
3. SIR.MUHAMMAD – VIII CAMBRIDGE
DESCRIBE THE
SEQUENCE OF EVENTS
THAT ENABLES YOU TO
SEE AN OBJECT THAT
DOES NOT PRODUCE ITS
OWN LIGHT ?!!
4. MECHANISM OF VISION
1-The light falls on the object
2-The the object reflects light
3-The reflected light enters our eyes
4-The reflected light causes a chemical reaction at the
back surface
5-The chemical reaction produces a signal that reaches our brains
.
5. EXPERIMENTING WITH SHADOWS
Shadows are caused when an object blocks out the light from
a light source . This creates dark areas that are not
illuminate by light source
1- SHARP SHADOW : if the source of light is small then the
shadow will have sharp edges .None of light source can reach
the screen but lots of light can reach the other areas. This
gives clear edges to the shadow
2- BLURRED SHADOW : when there is a large light source, the
edges of shadows can become blurred. This is because light
from some parts of the light source can still reach the screen
while some of the light is blocked.
