new relationship/family with someone who might also have
a family of his own from a previous relationship. The
author does not regret going into a new relationship and
becoming a stepmother, but she wishes that she had been

2. The reality is often very different from what is seen in
sitcoms because on television, the stories of families are
fictitious and entertaining; even if there are quarrels, there
is always a happy ending.
In real life, tensions and quarrels can become very
serious, sometimes as in a “war” as the author describes it
in the text. On television, reality is biased and embellished.
