2. Introduction: Internet of Things
• "Things" are everyday items like a mirror, shoes, pillow,
cups even garbage bins, which can be connected to the
Internet.
• "Things" will generate data, which will be analyzed and
if required, relevant actions will happen.
• The objective here is to make "things" "smart". Every
"thing" will be able to communicate with other "things."
• There will be an eco system of such "things", which will
ultimately help us live a better life in a better planet,
called "Smarter Planet" by IBM.
3. Introduction: Internet of Things
• Internet of Things along with Big data are two
revolutionary concepts that will redefine the world we live
in. Internet of Things particularly, will change the way we
interact with everyday objects. I personally have special
interest in making things "smart" and I want to create an
impact in the society through this. That's why I chose this
field.
• In the next five years, there will be more "things"
connected to the internet than human beings. Currently we
have app stores for phones and tablets. Soon we will have
separate ones for "things", to make them more productive.
4. Trends: Internet of Things
• There are already some "smart" "things" available in the
market like smart pillow, smart watches etc.
• But better things are already in development. These
include smart garbage bin, smart shoes, smart aquarium.
• We will soon have another port in the existing 3 port
power outlet we have, that will be for internet.
• There will be separate app store for smart things, to
make them more productive, if they are not enough!
• All of these will sync with our smartphone through apps.
5. Interest Areas: Internet of Things
• I intend to work primarily on user experience and what
could be done to make "things" smarter. Secondary interests
include creating a centralized system for accessing all
your things from one place.
• I am personally working on a project to create a database
of available and upcoming "things", to educate and tap the
potential market.
