My Profile as Security Adviser:(Security, Communications andLegal Adviser)
Each year millions of people around the world are affected by natural disaster and conflict. With a
minimum 10 years’ experience of serving as Security Advisor with various International Relief and
Development organisations, I am currently working as Manager Security for AJK Region with USAID’s
Pakistan Reading Project (PRP). I provide training, consultancy and support to relief organisations and
theirstaff around the country,improvingemergencyresponse andassistingpeople affectedbydisaster.
Through buildingskillsandtrainingstaff of INGOs and people indisastereffectedareas where disasters
occur, I make a lasting impact on the ground for buildings’, premises’ physical security, risk and threat
analysis,traininginsecuritymodules –Fire SafetyTraining,Checkpoints’Behaviour,FieldSecurity,Hostile
Surveillance Detection, Kidnapping & Hostage Survival, Office and Warehouse Security, Residential
Security, Personal Security, Situational Awareness and Security Perception, Accident Management
Training and much more – all that is needed by International Relief and Development Organisations for
safety and security of their staff and assets, and providing them safe and congenial environment for
operating in the field. I advise potential new relief workers, ensuring skilled professionals are always
available to respond in emergencies.
By Qualification I am BA LLB and started my carrier as practicing lawyer in 1989, and practiced civil law
until November 2005. In 1992 I also started my carrier as a journalist working withDAWN and Frontier
Post.In November2005 I joinedWorldVisionInternational (WVI) asCommunicationsAdvisor,andbased
on my reportingskillsIwasadditionallyassignedthe role of Security AdvisorbyWVIin2007. Having this
much experience in reporting, communications and security, I besides security can advise on reporting
skillsandcommunicationstrategyasandwhenneededbyanyorganisation,butmymajorareaof training
will remain as Security Adviser.
2. Experiences:
(1) Working as Manager Safety and Security for all the ten districts of Azad Jammu & Kashmir
(AJK) region in World Learning (WL) Inc. Pakistan Reading Project (PRP), a USAID
Grantee Program since 17-Feb-2014
(2) Worked as National Field Resilience (Security) Adviser with World Vision International,
Pakistan from July 2007 – to- February 2014
(3) Worked as Communications Adviser with World Vision International, Pakistan from Nov -
2005 –to- June 2007.
Major Roles & Responsibilities as Manager Safety and Security World Learning (WL):
I am based in Muzaffarabad AJK as Manager Safety & Security for AJK in World Learning (WL) Inc.
Pakistan Reading Project (PRP) covering all the ten districts of AJK since 17-Feb-2014. Among major
roles and responsibilities as Manager Safety & Security is overseeing security for project’s regional and
district offices. Assisting and security planning, and providing assistance for safety and security
measures for WL offices and staff in the AJK in the areas associated with the project. Developing and
periodically reviewing contingency plans for AJK sites to deal in the event of emergency. Developing
and periodically reviewing threat/risk assessment protocols, including threat/risk assessment indictors,
travel recommendations to carry out daily activities in the office and in the field.
Supervising the Security Officer in carrying out the daily routine activities in the office, and
ensuring security in the field.
Official Site selection for offices, official residences, security assessment of locations and
establishing location specific SOPs for the staff.
Security clearance of hotels and guesthouses for the official stay of staff in the operation areas.
Advising the staff for target hardening and access control protocols.
Establishing the surveillance system for the office premises and ensuring the physical security
of staff, assets and the premises by advising the staff on enhancement of physical security.
Deployment of security guards’ force as per premises requirement and monitoring Security
Guards’ performance
Contingency planning and developing documents for dealing with emergencies; periodically
reviewing the contingency plans.
Ensure that all newly inducted staff are given security briefing within 24 hours of their arrival.
Ensure that all staff are trained in established security training modules through regular training
sessions.
Weekly and monthly reports are generated for updating the Operations Coordinator on security
operations.
Supervising fire safety drills and periodic evacuation drills.
Capacity building of the Security Officer in training the staff in security training modules and
implementation of security SOPs
Conducting Risk Assessment of the operation areas and advising staff on risk mitigation
measures.
Conducting context analysis of the operation areas and advising staff accordingly to take risk
mitigation measures for operational security.
3. Monitoring the movement of staff in the field and ensuring their safety by establishing a staff
tracking system.
Responding immediately to the incidents and generating Incident Reports
Electronically security clearing the travel requests of the staff and ensuring staff safety during
the travel and in the field.
Assisting the Operations Coordinator in selection of car rental companies by advising on
security aspects.
Assisting the Operations Coordinator on selection of Security Guards’ Company for manning
the premises
Keeping a close liaison with local police and other security agencies.
Daily monitoring of print and electronic media and generating security updates for all staff for
keeping them abreast of the security situation in the operation areas.
Keeping record of security related incidents in the operation areas and advising staff
accordingly to take precautionary measures.
Major Roles & Responsibilities as National Field Resilience (Security) Adviser World Vision:
I had worked in 2005 earthquake response as World Vision International (WVI) as National Field
Security Adviser in EQ zone Hazara Region from 2007 to 2009, and in the same role worked in the
conflict zone in Peshawar, Buner and Lower Dir after military launched a massive operation to flush out
pro-al Qaeda militants from Swat and Malakand and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province
in 2009. Later I had also worked as WVI National Field Security Adviser during 2010 devastating
Pakistan floods in Peshawar and Lower Dir areas of KPK, and Multan, Muzaffargar and other parts of
southern Punjab. I had joined World Vision as Communications Advisor on 01-Nov-2005 while my last
assignment in World Vision was in Galliat Area Integrated Programme based in Abbottabadas National
Filed Resilience (Security) & Communications Advisor.
Safety & security of organisation’s staff & assets
Visits to field locations & resolving security issues; advising staff to effectively deal with

Advise Senior Management on changes in the local security context and amend security
procedures as appropriate.
Maintain communities’ profile and manage and investigate security incidents to provide a

Contribute as required to the development of GAIP programme design and planning in
coordination with local MNE Officer.
Manage the Security Information Management System, Preparing Daily Security Updates
and Synopsis and Analysis for circulation among all WVI Pakistan staff, cooperate with all
FROs in all WV operations areas in Pakistan in reviewing daily security updates.
Assist Senior Management in preparing Biweekly Reports and Global Security Watch for use
and monitoring of National Office, Regional Office and the Global Centre and/or work on any
other document/assignment handed over by the Senior Management
