PROUDLY WOMAN PROJECT
Starting the Conversation on Menstruation
No one person changes the
World; together we can
change the world by breaking
the barriers of Menstruation
in our societies. Let’s start the
conversation in schools and
fight against the lack of
information on menstrual
health.
Adolescents all over the world
have the opportunity to reach
their dreams if and only a
positive drive is built in them
that is “the right information to
nurture their potentials in the
right direction”.
Our goal is to break the silence
around menstruation and light a
conversation with all young
adolescents in schools and rural
communities and introduce our
re-washable sanitary pad.
Starting the conversation about
Menstruation in schools and
communities is primordial.

The Impact of Menstrual Education
Starting the conversation in Government
Bilingual High School Down Town
Bamenda was much fun. Government
Bilingual High School Down Town
Bamenda has a population of 3500
students with a staff of about 150.This is
one of the most populated government
schools in Bamenda. As a teacher from this
prestigious institution, I deem it necessary
to start the conversation with my students.
For its commonly said, “charity begins at
home”.
We started the race with 100
adolescents from the gender and
Common wealth Clubs of GBHS Down
Town Bamenda who shared their fears
and worries about menstruation. They
were able to break the silence and taboo
around menstruation. They had
activities such as brainstorming,
Sketches, debates and questions and
3. 3
answer sessions with the facilitators.
Some of the problems faced by these
adolescents’ ranges from: the absence
of regular flow of water in schools, the
absence of water system toilets and
money to constantly purchase sanitary
pad which most parents are unable to
constantly provide for their girls.
So what about the future of these
adolescent girls when basic
necessities like sanitary pads are
ignored by their parents and the
State of Cameroon? So where do
they turn to for help? What do they
use monthly? Where do they get
money from?
These and many other questions
kept the adolescents girls perplexed.
But the race continues….
Menstruation matters are important
for all and Mohcam is starting the
conversation and spreading the
news in schools, homes and rural
communities in Bamenda.
Adolescents need to be educated on
their menstrual health and keep
education safe.
