3. Introduction
● Though farming is an essential part in this earth but it
causes a great impacts on biological diversity
● Agriculture is the major cause of being deforestation and
replaced 70% of grassland
● Various conservationists are working to alleviate the
consequences of farming for biodiversity and ecosystem
● Same time conservationists need to know by maintaining
preservation of land how to fulfil the increasing demand

• Demand will rise by
70% worldwide between
2005 and 2050
• Demand for food
calories & protein will
increase by 100-110%
• Population growth
• Rapidly rising per capita
demand for non food
crops
• Changing food habit
• Dietary changes
• Far more land, nutrients
and water needed
• More nitrous oxide and
methane emitted

Different farming techniques
• Lowering externalities
• Enhancing nutrients &
efficiency
• Increase resistance to
pests
• Boosting drought
tolerance
Genetic
Modification (GM)
• Fine-tuning fertilizer
• Reducing inputs
• Increase resource
efficiency
• Drip irrigation
• Reduce pollution inputs
Precision
Agriculture
• Yields increased by using
companion crops
• Known as vuta sukuma
• system increases maize
yields from less than 1-
3.5 t/ha/yr

10. Conclusion
Source: Balmford et al., 2012
● Due to increasing food demand and changing of food habit nature will change dramatically within
next 50 years
● Conservationists may focus on key harmful impacts on farming
● Conservationists and farmers should work together to make a proper solution
