5. THE STORY OF
KOHA is the most advanced open source Integrated library system in use today by
hundreds of libraries worldwide.
Koha is a very useful library management system in providing various library
services to users including OPAC, circulation of library material, cataloguing, new
arrival etc.
The name KOHA comes from a Maori Term for a “Gift” or “Donation”.
The development of KOHA began in 1999, funded by group of libraries in New
Zealand.
The full features KOHA was developed initially in New Zealand by Katipo
Communications limited and first developed in January 2000 for Horowwhenua
Library trust.
KOHA is designed to work with a minimum of hardware resources.
KOHA is an open software Library Integrated Management System (LIMS).
compatible with various international library standards, such as, MARC21, Z39.50,
RSS, etc.

based on ‘KOHA’.
The first Library Systems (LS) provider in Egypt that provides LS in the form of
