4. INTRODUCTION
 BHILAI STEEL PLANT, a unit of Steel Authority of India Ltd. Inaugurated at
1959 by the president of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad with a production
capacity of 1.0 million tone.
 The captive mines of the plant located at Dalli-Rajahara supplies iron ore
complex,80 kms from bhilai and lime stone used to be available from
Nandini captive mines, 23 kms from bhilai.
 Niine times winner of Prime Minister’s trophy for best integrated Steel
Plant in Country.

7. MSDS - I
 Main purpose of this section is to monitor,
control and distribution Power to the whole
plant.
 total of 280 MW load capacity in plant.
 seven Power System department to control
Electric Power in Plant. We visited only MSDS-I
 Power is taken from three power plant i.e. PP1
, PP2 and PP3 .

 The repairment and maintenance of electric
motors installed in whole plant.
 Around 40 thousand motors are installed in
whole plant.
 Electrical Repair Shop consists of different
sections like Receive and Issue Section,
Assembly Section, Winding Section, Coil
Section, Testing Section etc.

18. BLAST FURNACE-8 (MAHAMAYA)
 The purpose of a blast furnace is to chemically reduce and
physically convert iron oxides into liquid iron called “ hot metal “ .
 Hot metal is used to steel melting shops(SMS).
 BF Works:- The hot air blast to the furnace burns the coke and
maintains the very high temperatures that are needed to reduce
the ore to iron. The reaction between air and the fuel generates
carbon monoxide. This gas reduces the iron oxide in the ore to
iron.
iron oxide + carbon monoxide = iron + carbon dioxide
 Limestone is added to the blast furnace to capture impurities and
create a waste slag.
 Mahamaya useful volume of 4060 cubic meter and capacity of
producing 8030 tone of hot metal per day or 2.8 million tone per
annum.

 Hot metal received from blast furnace. Is
converted to steel by removing carbon and other
elements present. A analysis of metal received
from blast furnace is :-
 C - 3.5-4.0 %
 Si - 0.6-1.0 %
 Mn - 0.6-1.0 %
 S - 0.05 % max
 P - 0.10 % max
