2. Supraglottic airways (SGAs) are a group of airway devices
that can be inserted into the pharynx to allow ventilation,
oxygenation, and administration of anesthetic gases,
without the need for endotracheal intubation.
As the name suggests this devices are placed above
glottis for airway management.

LMA or BRAIN MASK
• It is placed blindly in oropharynx and the cuff is
inflated with large volume of air.
• Inflated cuff seals the lateral and posterior
pharyngeal walls and patient can ventilated
thorough ventilation ports
• LMA are available in 7 different sizes the smallest
one for neonate and largest for adults.

• Easy to insert
• Dose not required any laryngoscope or muscle relaxants.
• Dose not require any specific position of cervical spine,
so can be used in cervical injures.
• Reusable
Disadvantage
• It does not prevent aspiration
• Should not be used for full stomach patients.
• Can cause laryngospasm if displaces anteriorly
6. Contraindications
• Full stomach patients
• Hiatus hernia(A hiatus hernia, or hiatal hernia, is when
part of the stomach squeezes up into the chest through
an opening ("hiatus") in the diaphragm)
• Pregnancy (where the chances of aspiration are high).
• Oropharyngel abscess or mass.
