SHIRISH BARK
• Synonyms: Siris siris(Hindi), Sirisah,
Bhandi(Sanskrit) , Siris tree, Frywood, Koko (English),
Bege mara (Kannada)
• Biological source: Shirish consists of dried as well
as fresh bark of Albizia Lebbeck Benth.
• Family: Fabaceae
• Geographical source: Native to tropical southern
Asia.
• A.lebbeck occurs extensively throughout the Indian
subcontinent and in Thailand and Malaysia.
SHIRISH BARK
•A common introduced roadside tree of the drier areas, it
has been widely cultivated and is now naturalized in the
West Indies and Africa.
• Its uses include environmental management,forage,
medicine and wood. It is cultivated as a shade tree
in North and South America. India and Pakistan, the tree
is used to produce timber. Wood from Albizia lebbeckhas a
density of 0.55-0.66 g/cm3 or higher.

MORPHOLOGY:
•Color: Dark brown in colour streaked with dark and
brown shades.
•Surface: Heartwood was appeared to be hard and
course in touch, rough texture and splintery in fracture
characteristic.

• Taste: Slight Astringent.

AYURVEDIC CHARACTERISTICS:-
•Guna (qualities) – Laghu (light to digest), Rooksha
(dry), Teekshna (enters deep tissues, piercing)
•Rasa (Taste) – Kashaya (astringent), Tikta (bitter),
Madhura (sweet)
•Vipaka (taste conversion after digestion) – Katu
(pungent)
•Veerya (potency) – Ishat Ushna – slightly hot.

CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS:
•Tannin (catechin)
•Cardiac glycoside
•Seed contain Niacin, Ascorbic acid, Calcium.
• Arginine, Histidine, Valine, Tryrosine.
• Flavanoids.
• Saponins.
• Flower contaibn Lupeol & Amyrin.

USES:
• Antiseptic,Anti-Bacterial,Anti-Allergic,AntiDermatosis,
Anti-Dysenteric.
•Bark in Bronchitis.
•Seeds in Piles.
•Root in Hemicrania .
•Flowers in Cough, Bronchitis, Tropical Pulmonary
Eosinophilia, and Asthma.
•Pod in Anti-Protozoal.
SHIRISH BARK
USES:
• Bark—a decoction is given in Rheumatism and
Haemorrhage. The bark contains Beta-Sitosterol and
yields 10–15% Tannins. An Oleanolic Acid Saponin,
Proceric Acid Saponin mixture from seeds and root
Saponin exhibit Spermicidal activity.

MARKETED FORMULATION:
•Shirisha, Albizzia lebbek is one of the main herbs
indicated as anti-toxin in Ayurveda.
•Shirisha is a herb to relief the bronchial asthma because it
expels all the toxins out of the body and also purifies the
blood. Shirisha opens the channels of the body by removing
the Ama and this took place in lungs mostly and that
makes Shirisha a herb of choice for respiratory disorders.
Because it removes the toxins so relieves in inflammatory
conditions also so effective in inflammatory joint disorders
too.
SHIRISH BARK
•Effect on Doshas: Tridoshashamak. It reduces Vata by
its ushna veerya and Kapha Pitta by kashaya and tikta
rasa. Its overall action is to reduce all the three Doshas.
Very few dravyas have such action.
• Shirisha very effective in dental problems. In toothache
and loosens of tooth gargling with bark decoction is done.
•Shirisha is used in eye diseases, especially in night
blindness, leaf juice or decoction is dropped in the eyes.
•Shirisha has helpful in purifies blood so that it can be
used in skin diseases, specially for herpes.
SHIRISH BARK
• Shirisha also works as an anti-inflammatory, beneficial
in inflammatory condition like arthritis, spondylitis and
lymphadenopathy
•Shirisha has special action of Shivovirechan (nasya) and
kaphaghna therefore it used in rhinitis, cough etc.
•Shirisha is also best herbal remedy for asthma, flower juice
is given with honey and piper longum (pippali) powder.
•Shirisha beneficial in poor semen quality, seed powder with
milk is given for virilization.
•Shirisha act as an antitoxic so that it recommended in all
toxic conditions. In organic and inorganic poisoning, bark
decoction or seed powder are used.
•Shirisha improves complexion of skin.
SHIRISH BARK
•Shirisha is the best anti toxin Ayurveda herb; it benefits
a lot in respiratory problems specially the Asthma by
removing the Ama and alleviating inflammation.
•Doses and Part Used:
•Bark, Seeds, Leaves, Flowers.
•We prefer the use of the bark and supply Shirisha Bark.
•Dose:
•Bark powder 3-6 gm., seed powder- 1-2 gm., leaf juice-
12- 24 ml.

SHIRISH BARK • Synonyms: Siris siris(Hindi), Sirisah, Bhandi(Sanskrit) , Siris tree, Frywood, Koko (English), Bege mara (Kannada) • Biological source: Shirish consists of dried as well as fresh bark of Albizia Lebbeck Benth. • Family: Fabaceae • Geographical source: Native to tropical southern Asia. • A.lebbeck occurs extensively throughout the Indian subcontinent and in Thailand and Malaysia.

SHIRISH BARK •A common introduced roadside tree of the drier areas, it has been widely cultivated and is now naturalized in the West Indies and Africa. • Its uses include environmental management,forage, medicine and wood. It is cultivated as a shade tree in North and South America. India and Pakistan, the tree is used to produce timber. Wood from Albizia lebbeckhas a density of 0.55-0.66 g/cm3 or higher.

SHIRISH BARK AYURVEDIC CHARACTERISTICS:- •Guna (qualities) – Laghu (light to digest), Rooksha (dry), Teekshna (enters deep tissues, piercing) •Rasa (Taste) – Kashaya (astringent), Tikta (bitter), Madhura (sweet) •Vipaka (taste conversion after digestion) – Katu (pungent) •Veerya (potency) – Ishat Ushna – slightly hot.
  • 8. SHIRISH BARK CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS: •Tannin (catechin) •Cardiac glycoside •Seed contain Niacin, Ascorbic acid, Calcium. • Arginine, Histidine, Valine, Tryrosine. • Flavanoids. • Saponins. • Flower contaibn Lupeol & Amyrin.
  • 9. SHIRISH BARK USES: • Antiseptic,Anti-Bacterial,Anti-Allergic,AntiDermatosis, Anti-Dysenteric. •Bark in Bronchitis. •Seeds in Piles. •Root in Hemicrania . •Flowers in Cough, Bronchitis, Tropical Pulmonary Eosinophilia, and Asthma. •Pod in Anti-Protozoal.
  • 10. SHIRISH BARK USES: • Bark—a decoction is given in Rheumatism and Haemorrhage. The bark contains Beta-Sitosterol and yields 10–15% Tannins. An Oleanolic Acid Saponin, Proceric Acid Saponin mixture from seeds and root Saponin exhibit Spermicidal activity.

SHIRISH BARK MARKETED FORMULATION: •Shirisha, Albizzia lebbek is one of the main herbs indicated as anti-toxin in Ayurveda. •Shirisha is a herb to relief the bronchial asthma because it expels all the toxins out of the body and also purifies the blood. Shirisha opens the channels of the body by removing the Ama and this took place in lungs mostly and that makes Shirisha a herb of choice for respiratory disorders. Because it removes the toxins so relieves in inflammatory conditions also so effective in inflammatory joint disorders too.
  • 12. SHIRISH BARK •Effect on Doshas: Tridoshashamak. It reduces Vata by its ushna veerya and Kapha Pitta by kashaya and tikta rasa. Its overall action is to reduce all the three Doshas. Very few dravyas have such action. • Shirisha very effective in dental problems. In toothache and loosens of tooth gargling with bark decoction is done. •Shirisha is used in eye diseases, especially in night blindness, leaf juice or decoction is dropped in the eyes. •Shirisha has helpful in purifies blood so that it can be used in skin diseases, specially for herpes.

SHIRISH BARK • Shirisha also works as an anti-inflammatory, beneficial in inflammatory condition like arthritis, spondylitis and lymphadenopathy •Shirisha has special action of Shivovirechan (nasya) and kaphaghna therefore it used in rhinitis, cough etc. •Shirisha is also best herbal remedy for asthma, flower juice is given with honey and piper longum (pippali) powder. •Shirisha beneficial in poor semen quality, seed powder with milk is given for virilization. •Shirisha act as an antitoxic so that it recommended in all toxic conditions. In organic and inorganic poisoning, bark decoction or seed powder are used. •Shirisha improves complexion of skin.

SHIRISH BARK •Shirisha is the best anti toxin Ayurveda herb; it benefits a lot in respiratory problems specially the Asthma by removing the Ama and alleviating inflammation. •Doses and Part Used: •Bark, Seeds, Leaves, Flowers. •We prefer the use of the bark and supply Shirisha Bark. •Dose: •Bark powder 3-6 gm., seed powder- 1-2 gm., leaf juice- 12- 24 ml.
