Evaluation q3
1. Q3. What kind of media institution
might distribute your media product
and why?
2. I think my media product
could be something that
could be produced in a major
Hollywood studio as it’s
quite similar to other
successful Hollywood films
in the thriller genre.
An example of this is Shutter
Island. It was positively cited
by movie reviewers and
grossed over $128 million in
its initial release and $166
million internationally.
This shows that Shutter Island was a successful
movie, so my media product could also become a
successful thriller as the stories and themes of
Shutter Island and my thriller are quite similar.
3. I think my media product would be better
suited for distribution by the following
production companies:
Paramount
Working Title/Working Title 2
Warner Bros.
Hammer Films
4. Paramount Pictures is an
American film and television
production/distribution
companies and is one of the
largest movie studios.
I chose Paramount Pictures
as it co-produced Shutter
Island which is very similar
to my thriller in terms of the
genre and story and was very influential for my
thriller.
Paramount have also had many successful
films, including many successful thriller films, e.g.
Transformers, Rear Window, Psycho and Double
Indemnity. These are all very successful thrillers.
5. Working Title Films is a British film production company
co-owned by Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan. In 1999, Bevan
and Fellner launched another subsidiary company named
Working Title 2 which was an independent film
production company and produced more independent
films.
I chose Working Title because being UK-based makes it
easier to access and it has also had many really
successfully distributed films such as Fargo, Johnny
English and Smokin’ Aces.
My thriller is a
crime/psychological thriller
and Working Title have
produced many crime based
films, which means they’d
product my thriller film
effectively.
6. Warner Bros. is an American film, television and
music production company founded in 1923.
I chose Warner Bros. as one of my options because it
produced the Harry Potter series, which I think were
produced, casted and distributed very effectively.
Warner Bros. has also produced many thrillers, such
as Lethal Weapon, Inception, Goodfellas and The
Dark Knight. All of these films are extremely
successful thrillers which
makes it a very suitable
option for my thriller.
7. Hammer Films is a film production company based
in the UK, founded in 1934.
Hammer Films specialises in sci-fi, thrillers and film
noir. They also produced many psychological
thrillers known as “mini-Hitchcocks” that were
quite low-budget, suspense thrillers. This relates to
my thriller quite well.
Hammer Films also produced
The Woman In Black which is
quite similar to my thriller
and was also produced really
well.
