you down 50 stories.

It only takes 6 seconds to
reach the bottom.
When you get to the
bottom you walk through
dark tunnels like the one
on the left.
5. So that’s how they did it!
This diagram shows
exactly how the Hoover
Dam was constructed.
Four large tunnels were
used to carry the water
away from the site where
the Hoover Dam was
going to be built. Today
they are used as an
emergency precaution if
lake mead was to flood.

These are called turbines.
Water rushing through
openings in the dam
causes huge machines to
spin. The spinning
turbines create electricity.
This electricity is sold to
help pay for the dam.
