1. Personal Mission Statement

Growing up, I never imagined I would find myself pursuing a career in Healthcare. Though I
grew up around many Healthcare professionals, I never felt a pull in that direction myself.
Through life experiences I have gained a passion, and in my adult years, have felt a calling
into the Nursing field.
As a Nurse I will be diligent in keeping an open line of communication with my patients. I
will build a trusting relationship through honesty, and respect. I will practice good
communication by not only speaking truthfully with my patients, but also by being an active
listener. I will be a non-judgemental support for my patients and encourage open
communication.
In my Nursing career I will be a strong patient advocate. I will treat my patients with
compassion and sympathy, understanding that their beliefs may not be my own, but
continuing to always fight for my patient. I will use my skill-set and knowledge to aid in
lessening their suffering, and upholding their healthcare wishes.
The Healthcare field is constantly changing, and I will continue with my nursing education.
I will keep up to date with evidence based best practice, to ensure the safety, and health of
my patients, and fellow staff. I will be diligent in my education, and seek guidance and
assistance when it is necessary. I will strive to be the best Nurse, and patient care provider
that I can be. I will not settle for my patients receiving anything less than the best care I am
capable of.
I will be aware of my strengths, as well as my weaknesses. Everyone makes mistakes, it is
inevitable in life. I will be strong enough to voice when I am in need of assistance. I will
strive to maintain a safe, comfortable, therapeutic environment for my patients. To
maintain patient satisfaction, and give my patients the best care possible, I will perform
professionally, ethically, and always with my patient's best interest, and desires at the
forefront of my mind.
2. My family is full of healthcare professionals. When asked what these family members do for
work, rather than stating their job title (paramedic, or Nurse), my young nephew states
"They make bad days better." In the simplest of terms, from the mouth of a 3 year old,
comes my personal mission statement. My goal, as I enter into the Nursing field, is to make
bad days better.
