2. “Public spaces and buildings represent community identity and foster civic pride”
-Peter Katz
During my graduate year I developed a thesis, Stitching Society, which explored how to utilize architecture to desegregate a community. Within my re-
search I collaborated with members of a local urban community in interviews and other applications. In doing so I learned that this thesis functions best
as a prototype for similar diverse neighborhoods with high rates of segregation. As a result this thesis strategized architectonics that encourage social
interaction amongst different ethnicities without having to rely on program.
These architectural methods can be implemented in different sites and still be successful with increasing integrated social interaction. The ultimate goal
would be to use this thesis as a point of reference for uniting a segregated community through the built environment.

4. Initially I started working on Markman Children’s Program as a designer and later I took on the position of Project Captain. As a designer I developed
the overall floor plan, elevations and interior design. I also was responsible for producing construction drawings and coordinating MEP drawings. Upon
the transition to Project Captain I assumed control over weekly construction meetings, shop drawing approvals, RFI responses and any other assistance
the superintendent or project manager needed to ensure that the project met its budget and schedule. professional experience

As project captain for an 80,000 square foot office renovation in Worcester, MA I worked closely with the client, engineers and furniture vendor to not
only design a space to host over 300 occupants but also to build it within a restrictive deadline. During this time I was challenged to develop a space
that would perform well in its circulation, acoustics, energy consumption and daylight harvesting. As of February 2016 the project is under construction
and steadily moving towards completion.

Intervening the historic “Hans” of Istanbul was an exciting process. While I wandered the streets of Istanbul I was challenged by the narrow streets
and low sight lines. It is very easy to get lost and to pass by the Hans, which are buried in the typical street facades. To attempt to bring life back to the
Hans my project carved through the complicated geometries of the urban fabric and connected the users to two of the most iconic buildings of the city,
the Blue Mosque & the Hagia Sophia.
7. In an effort to gentrify Mission Hill in Roxbury, MA myself and my classmates collaborated to design a master plan. This master plan reflected our stud-
ies on the current residents and the plans the city of Boston has in store for the future. Within that master plan we divided it into separate parcels that
addressed certain issues: housing, education, economy, traffic, etc.
My project focused on developing housing for families with working parents. It’s proximity to the Orange Line and to the community park made its loca-
tion appealing for its users. To maximize sound absorption and solar gain the building was oriented so the apartments would face the park and the atri-
um to face south & across from the train tracks. This sort of balance was designed to encourage the residents to interact with each other in the central
atrium, but to still have their own personal and quiet retreat. academic experience
8. To help clients foresee their projects I worked with our head designer to develop proposals for several projects. Once we finalized a design (based on
zoning requirements, client needs, site conditions and program) I built 3D models with Revit to develop renderings for design presentations. By using
Revit, Photoshop & Illustrator I was able to demonstrate how our proposed building will look upon completion. professional experience

10. Architecture hosts life, memories, trials, triumphs, and so much more. The collaboration of detailed construction and design
is where space becomes harmonious and allows for people to develop communities within the built environment. With out
this intimate connection our buildings struggle to be a functional environment.
Having a background in design-build truly has enabled me to understand both sides of the field. It taught me to think more
about budget or scheduling rather than just aesthetics. At the same time it also enhanced my awareness of how important it
is to fight for the architectural intent, to ensure that ultimately the space is successful for its users.
