2. INTRODUCTION:
● The soil is the great
store house of plant
food.
● Continuous planting
of crops, however,
soon exhausts the
soil for its plant food.
3. • To maintain soil
productivity, the lost soil
nutrients should be
replenished by artificial
means to get normal
yields.
• The addition of plant food
to the soil may be in the
form of manures or
commercial fertilizers.
4. FERTILIZERS
● Any material, natural or
manufactured added to the
soil to supply one ore more
essential plant nutrients.
● Are substances added to the
soil that have the power to
increase its fertility.
5. ● There are three important
elements (macro elements)
needed by plants during
their growth; Nitrogen (N),
Phosphorus (P), and
Potassium (K).
● These are known as N-P-K
for short.
ELEMENTS NEEDED BY PLANT
6.
7. FUNCTIONS OF NITROGEN
● Nitrogen gives a dark color to the plants.
It promotes the growth of plants.
● It promotes the rapid growth of plants
and hastens maturation of trees.
● It also induces flowering and seed
formation in fruit trees.
8. FUNCTIONS OF PHOSPHOROUS
• Nitrogen gives a dark color to the
plants.
• It promotes the growth of plants.
• The protein contents of food
crops and hastens maturation of
trees.
• It also induces flowering and
seed formation in fruit trees.
9. • Potassium is available to plants
in the form of potash.
• It helps the protein production of
grains and also induces their
plump development.
• This element increases vigor and
disease resistance in plants.
FUNCTIONS OF POTASSIUM
11. ● Which are taken from plant
and animal wastes and
include manure, leaf mold,
hay, bean straw, and similar
waste material.
1. Organic or Natural Fertilizers
12. ● Which are of mineral origin, such as
lime, and include commercial fertilizers
that can be bought in agricultural
stores.
2. Inorganic, Artificial, or Chemical
Fertilizers
14. 1. Broadcasting
• As a rule, commercial
fertilizer should be
broadcast and
thoroughly mixed with
the soil by harrowing as
a basal application.
• This is especially
practiced in rice culture.
15. 2. Row Application
• Row application is the
application that is done by rows
or under the plants in rows.
The fertilizer is not allowed to
touch the roots of the plants.
This is more effective in small
scale rate applications.
Besides being commercial, it
promotes the maximum growth
of plants
16. 3. Band Application
• Band Application, fertilizers
is applied a few centimeters
around each plant.
• This promotes early growth
and prevents injury
germination of the plants
raised directly from seed.
17. 4. Side-dressing or Topdressing
• Side-dressing or topdressing,
fertilizers is applied to complete
the amount required.
• This advantageous except that it
requires more labor.
• Topdressing is done by
broadcasting.
18. ASSIGNMENT:
• Create a video presentation
demonstrating one chosen
method of applying fertilizer.
