Chaka Fattah is a U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania who was born in Philadelphia in 1956. He served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1983 to 1988 and the Pennsylvania State Senate from 1988 to 1994 before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994 where he still serves. As a mayoral candidate for Philadelphia, Fattah opposed the Iraq war and came under criticism for supporting a new trial for Mumia Abu-Jamal.
