Students in middle school and high school will be provided with a list of books that they may read over the summer. These books can be found in print, as well as as online by visiting HAAl pass. Students are asked to pick at least 2 of the listed books for their grade level to read.
When students finish reading a book, they will complete a plot structure diagram to provide the literary elements that take place in the book. This will help students dig deeper, while allowing us to have evidence that learning is taking place.
Students will be able to upload their work each time they complete a book using the summer program folder on the slam tampa website.
June 8-July 31 (8 weeks)
Each book read with a completed plot diagram= 1 dress down pass or 1 game room pass
5 books read with a completed plot diagram= summer chick fil a party at school (Covid guidelines in order)
Two students with Most books read= $100 gift card (1 middle school + 1 high school)
According to the University of Oxford, reading books is the only out of school activity for 16 year old students linked to getting a managerial or professional job later in life.
Students who do not read over the summer, or read infrequently during the summer see their reading abilities stagnate or decline.

Harvard university confirmed that students who participated in a summer reading program gained nearly 1.5 months of reading skills compared to non-participants.
Students in middle school and high school (6th grade-Geometry) will be provided with weekly math worksheets over the summer. These worksheets are designed to help students review content in order to be prepared for the 2020-20201 school year.
Weekly zoom sessions will be available for students to get live help with any of their work. A schedule of zoom sessions will be provided prior to June 8th
.
Students will be able to upload their work each time they complete math work for the week using the summer program folder on the slam tampa website.
