Issue:
A proven success formula cannot be applied
everywhere with same result
in some cultures incentive-driven is viewed as
sense of disrespect, making the formula
rather destructive

Case: after lengthy negotiations, American delegation
proposes an offer to a Japanese ‘prospect
partner’, with a standard deadline to take a
decision.
Result: despite the preceding long talks, negotiations
were suddenly cut off.
Issue:
The Japanese partner felt offended by a deadline.

not always perceived equally acceptable by

Case: in an Accounting Department, management
introduces Lean Six Sigma to make transactions
processes ‘quicker’ and thus save on costs
(including announced lay-offs).
Result: teams felt wing-clipped and losing
motivation, fearing job-loss, extra stress,
sickness-absenteeism increased, irritation rose
and team-members stopped communicating,
error-frequency in transactions went up.
Issue:
Logical process adjustments caused team to lose
motivation efficiency went down
management assumed gain from innovative
method, implementation were poorly
communicated, therefore underestimating that
team would feel underrated and misused.

Decision-making and interacting with clients or team-
