Michael has held various positions during his twenty eight years in the health care
industry including medical billing and coding, medical claims processing, medical
claims consulting, patient financial representative, customer service representative,
medical collections and managed care claims staff supervisor. Michael has worked for
major health care carriers such as Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Minnesota, First Health,
John Alden Life & Health, as an independent medical claims consultant and currently
teaches Medical Billing and Coding & Electronic Health Records at San Diego State
University. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of
Minnesota.
Michael is currently involved in health care initiatives and is a current board
member for National Health Career Association and has served as the 2005, 2010 &
2011 President of the San Diego Chapter of the American Academy of Professional
Coders. He is a member of the American Board of Specialty Coding, the American
Academy of Professional Coders and the Professional Medical Billers Association. He
holds the current credentials of Certified Professional Coder, Certified Compliance
Professional – Physician, Certified Professional Medical Biller and Occupational
Specialist.
Michael is also part owner of Pitt and Reynolds Medical Claims Consulting and
assists facilities with health care issues such as; compliance, data mining, audit
coordination, fraud and abuse investigations, DHHS Physician exclusion and HIPAA
education and reporting.
