Destined to go the extra degree
– to reach into every person’s
world
Information Technology

Going the extra degree to
reach every student’s world
When water is at 211 degrees it is known as hot
water. However, going the one extra degree in
temperature allows water to reach the boiling
point. When it reaches the boiling point it can be
turned into steam; which has the potential to run
steam engines such as train or ship engines. The
one degree of change allows water to be
transformed into energy that transports things and
people around the world.
During the first 12-years of
the 21st century, technology
within education has not
transformed the methods of
education more than 3
percent.(1)

The Oral Roberts Information
Technology Department is taking

and the world around us; thus
@212. The ORU IT @212 will
leverage technology to be world
changers by leveraging innovation

Going the extra degree to reach every person’s world
The Spiritual Side of Innovation
Going the extra degree @212
Mark 2:12 – brings to life the innovative miracle of the people lowering
the paralyzed man down through the roof. The people got creative and
innovative and went the extra degree. The result of the innovation was a
healing and the people responded: “This amazed everyone and they
praised God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this!”
When people go the extra degree of effort and get creative and
innovative, great things happen. The result is that people around notice
that something great or amazing has happened. The ORU IT@212
desires to go the extra degree and get innovative and expectant with
technology to make a difference that amazes our students, faculty, and
other universities.
“Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an
opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat
the man was lying on …. He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of
them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, "We have never
seen anything like this!” Mark 2:4; 12

212 – the extra degree
Opportunities within the small
margins
The extra degree in
commitment makes
all the difference!
212: Business
• We work in a service industry: often the extra
degree can make all the difference in building
culture, business, reputations, etc.
• Extra degrees:
– Proactive planning
– Seeking to understand
– Going one step further
– Gaining perspective
Applying it to Your Work
• Working beyond “technicalities”
• Taking the extra step that is not required
• Making a difference with “that one student”
• Doing your job to the best of your ability
Making the 212 Stick
• Pushing beyond comfort zone
• Moving your limit so you can push beyond it
• Moving past your saturation point
– “each set should be completed till exhaustion to
gain the most benefit out of the workout” (from:
Tips on How to Maximize Your Workout)
People need to be reminded
more often than they need to be
instructed.
Samuel Johnson
English poet (1709 – 1784)
212 Concepts
• Perseverance is not one long race: it is a
series of short ones.
• Small differences can make a life-
changing impact.
• One small move can make the difference
between being good and being great.
• To achieve your goals, you must be
willing to do things you’ve never
done before.
Summary
• One extra degree of effort amounts to
exponential results.
• It takes effort and commitment but it doesn’t
have to be huge.
• The opportunities lie within the small margins.
• Results resonate!
Commitment
• The key to the 212 is commitment.
• Commitment comes from identifying and
addressing the vital behaviors in order to
create measurable results.
• Start off small: 1 thing differently beginning
today.
Destined to go the extra degree
– to reach into every person’s
world

  • 2. Destined to go the extra degree – to reach into every person’s world
  • 3. Information Technology @212 Going the extra degree to reach every student’s world When water is at 211 degrees it is known as hot water. However, going the one extra degree in temperature allows water to reach the boiling point. When it reaches the boiling point it can be turned into steam; which has the potential to run steam engines such as train or ship engines. The one degree of change allows water to be transformed into energy that transports things and people around the world.

  • 8. The Spiritual Side of Innovation Going the extra degree @212 Mark 2:12 – brings to life the innovative miracle of the people lowering the paralyzed man down through the roof. The people got creative and innovative and went the extra degree. The result of the innovation was a healing and the people responded: “This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this!” When people go the extra degree of effort and get creative and innovative, great things happen. The result is that people around notice that something great or amazing has happened. The ORU IT@212 desires to go the extra degree and get innovative and expectant with technology to make a difference that amazes our students, faculty, and other universities. “Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on …. He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this!” Mark 2:4; 12

  • 15. The extra degree in commitment makes all the difference!
  • 16.
  • 17.
  • 18. 212: Business • We work in a service industry: often the extra degree can make all the difference in building culture, business, reputations, etc. • Extra degrees: – Proactive planning – Seeking to understand – Going one step further – Gaining perspective
  • 19. Applying it to Your Work • Working beyond “technicalities” • Taking the extra step that is not required • Making a difference with “that one student” • Doing your job to the best of your ability
  • 20. Making the 212 Stick • Pushing beyond comfort zone • Moving your limit so you can push beyond it • Moving past your saturation point – “each set should be completed till exhaustion to gain the most benefit out of the workout” (from: Tips on How to Maximize Your Workout)
  • 21. People need to be reminded more often than they need to be instructed. Samuel Johnson English poet (1709 – 1784)
  • 22. 212 Concepts • Perseverance is not one long race: it is a series of short ones. • Small differences can make a life- changing impact. • One small move can make the difference between being good and being great. • To achieve your goals, you must be willing to do things you’ve never done before.
  • 23. Summary • One extra degree of effort amounts to exponential results. • It takes effort and commitment but it doesn’t have to be huge. • The opportunities lie within the small margins. • Results resonate!
  • 24. Commitment • The key to the 212 is commitment. • Commitment comes from identifying and addressing the vital behaviors in order to create measurable results. • Start off small: 1 thing differently beginning today.
  • 25. Destined to go the extra degree – to reach into every person’s world
