Introduction:
Face book now a day’s became a global phenomenon. It provides several features for its users
such as chatting, sharing news, update status and wall posts among others so that one can keep in
touch with the family, friends and world happenings. Face book has become a popular and
preferred tool of communication among the students also. They use the site for passing time, to
maintain old ties, entertainment and social interactions. Social networking sites took an
indispensable part in daily life and they provide a lot of advantages to college and university
students not only their social life but also for their carriers. Although benefits and advantages of
social networking sites like face book are noted, problems caused by heavy usage of social
networking sites are not forgotten. At this point it can be seen that university and college
students stay a crucial and dangerous position in terms of face book addiction. However increase
of psychological and addiction problems caused heavy usage of face book leads to
educationalists and psychiatrists to worry about negative effects of face book on public health.
Researchproposal:
It is as follows:
Objectives:
 What are the Face book usage reasons of participants?
 What are the Face book addiction levels of participants?
 What kind of relations are there between Face book addiction levels and Face book
operating times of participants?
 What kind of profile do non-addicts have differently from addicts?
Scope:
The scope will remain within the city of Islamabad and students from different universities and
colleges of Islamabad.
Importance:
Face book has started to take an important part of people’s daily life as a result of developments
in communication technologies. Nowadays so many scholars from communication studies accept
face book as a mass communication media that provides people to reach so much kind of
information and also it provides people to communicate with their social contacts. However
beside its benefits to social and personal life of users, it is undeniably true that Face book has
Some negative effects for its users because of heavy and aimless usage. Definitely the most
Important of these problems is Face book mania.
Researchhypothesis:
Face book addiction make teenagers experience problems and erosions in their social life and
relations.

programs are 2700, F62 College is 4000, Comsats University is 8319 and F72 College is 3500.
Sampling Type:
I am doing a probability sampling
Calculated Sample values
 Confidence level= 95%
 Margin of error =9%
 Aggregate population size= 18519
 Sample size= 76
 Probability=80%
To take probability 80% this means that my all population is homogenous because trend and
patterns of youth towards using the face book are very similar.

 The total number of questions are 15
 Time taken to solve it, will be 5 to 10 minutes
Constraints:
 Time and financial constraint may arise in it.
Analytical Framework:
After data has been entered, it can be analyzed using descriptive statistics. Descriptive statistics
are commonly used for summarizing data frequency. Frequency analysis is a descriptive
statistical method that shows the number of occurrences of each response chosen by the
respondents. When conducting survey analysis, cross tabulation are appropriate for analyzing the
relationship between two or more variables.
I will analyze my data by applying frequency analysis on some questions and will also use cross
tabulations to find out the relationships between different variables and in order to attain the
objectives.
Firstly I will check the frequency analysis of gender then age and so on and will also analyze
different questions by cross tabulations. Questions may include how often do you log on to face
book, time spent on face book etc. These questions are just for example. I will include all those
questions which will helpful for me in achieving my objectives.

Analysis of the questions which have string variables is given as:
Q8.Face book as a waste of time
Most of the respondents have said that yes it is, if used excessively. They said that it depends on
usage while other said that no it is quiet helpful in building network and is a good way to spend
time.
Q 10.Face book addiction making teenagers experience problem
Most of the respondents said that yes it is effectively creating some sort of problems in our lives.
Some said that it is good as well as bad while other said it is not necessary.
Q 11.Face book is significant part of your life
In this question respondent said that yes it is a significant part of their lives because thing
changes as time changes. Some said that it is just for information, connectivity and
entertainment. We have other social Medias as well.
Findings:
There were 51 female and 25 male students. Most of the students were from 19-26 years.
Different questions were asked from them for attainment of objectives. Most of the students said
that excessive use of face book is making teenagers experience problems. 93.4% joined face
book over 1 year. There were 50 respondents who log on to face book every day and time spent
on it is mostly over 2 hours. 23.7% respondents says that they use face book for forwarding
videos, pictures or quotes and for posting notes or update status. 19.7% respondents answered
that they often post and share personal photos and share news. Left of the respondents says that
they use it for playing games. There are 9.2% respondents who used face book 1 time, 19.7%
uses it 2 times, 14.5% uses it 3 times, 13.2% uses it 4 times and 43.4% uses it 5 times a day. This
all information shows the addiction of face book. Most of the students log on to face book again
and again without any intension of logging while some of the respondents have said that yes it is
a waste of time, if used excessively. They said that it depends on usage while other said that no it
is quiet helpful in building network and is a good way to spend time. It is a significant part of
their lives. Students enjoyed answering me and help me because this topic was of their interest.
Fulfillment of objectives:

We can also interpret it by following manner.
It was seen that face book addiction of participants differentiate according to their face book
usage patterns and purposes. These results depicts that how they are spoiling their friend and
family relationships as not giving them their proper and quality time due to their indulgence in
purpose less activities on face book.
Conclusion:
The manipulation of data reveals that the objectives of my survey have been achieved. As we can
see that the face book usage reasons of most of the participants (23.7%) are to forward pictures,
quotes videos, posting notes or update status. The addiction level of face book usage is very high
among the participants. As majority of the participants (65.8%) said that they log on to face book
every day. There is a close relationship between participants face book addiction level and their
operating times. They used to be on face book over two hours each time they access the site. As
majority of the participants of the survey showed their face book addiction level so we cannot
predict the profile for the non addicts. Teenagers now days face a lot of problems in their social
relations because they spend most of their important and useful time in unnecessary activities
and in spite of discussing and spending time with their parents / elders to solve and help / guide
in resolving problems being so experienced, which is creating generation gap / space.
Recommendations:
 Face book addiction in particular should be concentrated
 Be careful of the race to have as many friends as possible
 A well said by someone “excess of everything is bad", fits here
 Set a predetermined amount of time allowed for face book
 Limit the number of automatic feeds and status update you receive
 Indulge in some other activity that you like

  • 4. Introduction: Face book now a day’s became a global phenomenon. It provides several features for its users such as chatting, sharing news, update status and wall posts among others so that one can keep in touch with the family, friends and world happenings. Face book has become a popular and preferred tool of communication among the students also. They use the site for passing time, to maintain old ties, entertainment and social interactions. Social networking sites took an indispensable part in daily life and they provide a lot of advantages to college and university students not only their social life but also for their carriers. Although benefits and advantages of social networking sites like face book are noted, problems caused by heavy usage of social networking sites are not forgotten. At this point it can be seen that university and college students stay a crucial and dangerous position in terms of face book addiction. However increase of psychological and addiction problems caused heavy usage of face book leads to educationalists and psychiatrists to worry about negative effects of face book on public health. Researchproposal: It is as follows: Objectives:
  • 5.  What are the Face book usage reasons of participants?  What are the Face book addiction levels of participants?  What kind of relations are there between Face book addiction levels and Face book operating times of participants?  What kind of profile do non-addicts have differently from addicts? Scope: The scope will remain within the city of Islamabad and students from different universities and colleges of Islamabad. Importance: Face book has started to take an important part of people’s daily life as a result of developments in communication technologies. Nowadays so many scholars from communication studies accept face book as a mass communication media that provides people to reach so much kind of information and also it provides people to communicate with their social contacts. However beside its benefits to social and personal life of users, it is undeniably true that Face book has Some negative effects for its users because of heavy and aimless usage. Definitely the most Important of these problems is Face book mania. Researchhypothesis: Face book addiction make teenagers experience problems and erosions in their social life and relations. Conduction of the survey My survey is about the usage of face book in the students of different universities and colleges and whole of the survey will be conducted accordingly. Sampling Type: I am doing a probability sampling Calculated Sample values  Confidence level= 95%  Margin of error =9%  Aggregate population size= 18519  Sample size= 76  Probability=80%
  • 6. To take probability 80% this means that my all population is homogenous because trend and patterns of youth towards using the face book are very similar. Source for sample calculations: http://www.raosoft.com/samplesize.html SURVEY DESIGN: My survey is about the usage of face book in the students. This survey will be conducted in some universities and colleges. This will be done among the students dispersed in various premises of institutions like cafeteria, libraries and grounds from Monday to Friday at 9 am to 1 pm. Distribution of sample: I will conduct my interviews and distribute my questionnaires to76 students out of which 45 will be from comsats(Male=23,Female=22), 13 from F62model college Islamabad in which all will be females, 11 females only from F.G college for women f72 and 7 will be from Air University(female=4,Male=3). These proportions are set according to their strength. Summary of the questionnaires:  The questionnaire consists of open ended and closed ended questions  The total number of questions are 15  Time taken to solve it, will be 5 to 10 minutes Constraints:  Time and financial constraint may arise in it. Analytical Framework: After data has been entered, it can be analyzed using descriptive statistics. Descriptive statistics are commonly used for summarizing data frequency. Frequency analysis is a descriptive statistical method that shows the number of occurrences of each response chosen by the respondents. When conducting survey analysis, cross tabulation are appropriate for analyzing the relationship between two or more variables. I will analyze my data by applying frequency analysis on some questions and will also use cross tabulations to find out the relationships between different variables and in order to attain the objectives.
  • 8. Firstly I will check the frequency analysis of gender then age and so on and will also analyze different questions by cross tabulations. Questions may include how often do you log on to face book, time spent on face book etc. These questions are just for example. I will include all those questions which will helpful for me in achieving my objectives. Data Analysis: Frequencies: Table No.1: Gender of respondents Frequency Percent Valid Percent Cumulative Percent Valid Male 25 32.9 32.9 32.9 Female 51 67.1 67.1 100.0 Total 76 100.0 100.0 My first question was on gender of respondents. By this table we can see that there were total 76 students out of which 25 were male and 51 were female. Table No.2: 0 10 20 30 40 50 60 male female Gender Gender
  • 9. Age group of respondents Frequency Percent Valid Percent Cumulative Percent Valid 19-22 51 67.1 67.1 67.1 23-26 25 32.9 32.9 100.0 Total 76 100.0 100.0 Second question was related to the age group. There were 67% respondents who were from age group of 19-22 and 33% were from 23-25. Table No.3: Joining of respondents to face book Frequency Percent Valid Percent Cumulative Percent Valid 6 months 5 6.6 6.6 6.6 Over one year 71 93.4 93.4 100.0 Total 76 100.0 100.0 0 10 20 30 40 50 60 19-22 23-26 age group age group
  • 10. In the above table we can see different frequencies given regarding the responses of the respondents towards the question that was asked about the joining of face book. By above table we can interpret that mostof the respondentsjoined itoverone year. Table No.4: How often do you log on to face book Frequency Percent Valid Percent Cumulative Percent Valid Less than 1 day in a week 3 3.9 4.0 4.0 1 day in a week 5 6.6 6.7 10.7 2-4 days in a week 12 15.8 16.0 26.7 5-6 days in a week 5 6.6 6.7 33.3 Everyday 50 65.8 66.7 100.0 Total 75 98.7 100.0 Missing System 1 1.3 Total 76 100.0 By this question we can interpret that there are 50 respondents who used it every day other percentages are comparatively low.
