DISADVANTAGES
■ Staff become tense and fearful
■ Turnover rate become increase

■ Also known as participative style
■ Is a type of leadership style in which members of the group
take a more participative role in the decision-making process
■ Delegate authority
■ ideas are exchanged freely
ADVANTAGES
■ Democratic leadership works best in situations where group
members are experienced and ready to share their knowledge
■ A large or complex problem that requires lots of input to solve
■ Wants to provide opportunities for staff to develop a high
sense of personal growth and job satisfaction
■ Democratic leadership can lead to better ideas and more
creative solutions to problems
DISADVANTAGES
■ Not enough time to get everyone’s input
■ democratic leadership can lead to communication failures and
uncompleted projects
■ In some cases, group members may not have the necessary
knowledge or expertise to make quality contributions to the
decision-making process
FREE REIN
■ All authority or power given to the staff and they determine
goals, make decisions, and resolve problems on their own
■ Relies on good team work
ADVANTAGES
■ Useful when Staff is highly skilled, experienced, and educated
■ Positive effect on job satisfaction
■ Can be very useful in businesses where creative ideas are
important
DISADVANTAGE
■ Under this style of leadership, there is no leadership at all
■ Staff do not get the guidance and support of the leader
■ Staff may move in different directions.
