3. CHILDHOOD & FAMILY
Born to Mr Punthenpurakhal Kurien and Mrs Kurien Syrian Christian Family.
His Father was a Civil Surgeon in Cochin Kerala.
Brought up in Christian Missionary Society by his Mother.
Represented College in Cricket, Badminton and Boxing.
He wanted to join ARMY but mother didn’t let him to go for War.
His father Died when he was 21.
Verghese Married Molly and has One daughter Nirmala Kurien
4. EARLY LIFE
He did his B.E(Mechanical) from Madras University.
Went to USA to do Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University.
Completed special Studies in Engineering at the Tata Iron and Steel Company Institute at
Jamshedpur, in February 1964.
Underwent nine months of Specialized training in Dairy Engineering at he National Dairy
Research Institute of Banaglore.
5. CAREER
Posted in Govt. Research Creamery at Anand in 1949. After 6 months set to leave to city of Mumbai.
Assisted Chairman of Kaia District Co- Operative Union(AMUL)Tribhuvandas Patel.
Operation Flood Launched in 1971 with 2 village participating in 1942, 65 years later grown to 16,100 with
3.20 million producers pouring millions of tonnes of milk into GCMMF containers twice daily.
Country’s Milk Production shouts up from mere 20 MMT in 1960 to 122 MMT now.
Maintained Contribution to design System & Institutions.
Helped to reduce malpractices by Milk Producers and Merchants
He made Ordinary , Neighbourhood ‘Doodwala’ a key player in economic development
