Dear Search Committee,
I am writing to address interest in the Inclusion and Peer Outreach Coordinator position. I have been passionate
about working with program development and on behalf of students of diverse backgrounds since my
undergraduate career at Edgewood College.
During my time at Edgewood College, I had the opportunity to work with individuals who have historically
been marginalized including individuals with disabilities and those who were first or second generation Latin
American. As the UWM Sociocultural Programming Graduate Assistant for the last two school years, I
supported my team through creation and implementation of programs related to diverse identities, social justice,
and urban issues. I developed and coordinated a new Sociocultural Student Advisory Council, including
research, recruitment and curriculum featuring community building, leadership development, service, and
programming opportunities for students. I was the lead organizer of UWM’s American Indian Heritage Month
Celebration in collaboration with American Indian Student Services, an International Women’s Day
Celebration, two Fall Welcome events, ‘Panther Pause: A Campus-Wide Study Break,’ and other awareness
programs. Throughout my educational career I have traveled to El Salvador, Mexico, and most recently to Costa
Rica, where I practiced my Spanish, learned the culture and customs, and volunteered. Additionally, I recently
initiated and co-developed a college peer mentor program for students with disabilities by students with
disabilities. I have become a leader, an advocate for justice, a programmer, a community educator, a lifetime
volunteer, and most of all, a young, creative, and energetic woman with a desire to work in higher education.
Given my range of experiences and passion for college student mentoring and programming to celebrate
commonalities and differences, I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you about the Inclusion and
Peer Outreach Coordinator position. I can be contacted at 920-716-2045 or at melizdufrane@gmail.com if you
require any additional information. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely yours,
MeganDuFrane
