Officer Retreat
The chapter officer team made their way to Minneapolis, Minnesota to
participate in their annual officer retreat. While they were in the city, they
participated in an array of events like professional development and team
bonding.
The team had the opportunity to visit the CHS (Cenex-Harvest States)
headquarters over retreat. Several CHS employees and interns presented to
the team about their jobs within the company as well as the opportunities
they had to offer the students. After learning about the company, Billie Jo
Nelson gave them a tour of the office building and brought them to lunch.
After the morning’s events, the officers had some time to plan and set goals
for their upcoming year.
While in Minneapolis, they also visited the Como Zoo and had a kayaking
adventure on the Mississippi River. We are pleased to report only one team
flipped their kayak! The team also had some bonding time in the hotel while
swimming and playing cards.

WLC: Washington
Leadership Conference
Each year, FFA members from all over the
country meet in our nation’s capital to learn
about “Living to Serve” through the Washington
Leadership Conference.
This year, the Sibley-Ocheyedan FFA Chapter
had one member, Riane Vickery, attend the life-
changing conference. On June 20, Riane, along
with 90 other Iowa FFA members departed for
the trip of a lifetime.
While in DC, Riane participated in several
events like touring the monuments, creating her
“Living to Serve” (LTS) plan, attending
conference sessions, and making friends from
all over the nation. Riane had the opportunity
to visit all of the monuments in DC, have
congressional meetings with many of Iowa’s
government officials, and visit the Newseum.
Throughout the conference sessions, the
students talked about diversity in agriculture
complete with a diversity museum, advocating
and sharing their story, and personal
development. Many conference sessions were
led with the large group of 380 students, and
others were led in the students' community
groups, which were smaller groups of about 30
students. In their community groups, they
talked about the importance of serving and with
the help of their community leader, developed
their LTS plan.
“WLC is a leadership conference I
will never forget. They put the
needs of the world into
perspective and taught me how to
serve by putting my wants aside
and tending to the needs of
others.” - Riane Vickery

NW DISTRICT COLT CONFERENCE
On June 10, the chapter officers made their way to the
COLT conference held at Dordt College in Sioux Center.
Upon arrival, the officers had the opportunity to learn
about their respective positions and duties that they will
complete throughout the next year. After officer
workshops, they were split into groups and completed
training on skills they will use to lead the chapter in the
upcoming years such as connecting with stakeholders,
understanding their leadership style, and time
management.
