Cox's Bazar named after Leiutenant Cox
who had rehabilitated here many people
during British rules after conquest of Arakan
by Burmese in 17th Century.That time he
made a market place – a Bazaar for the
locals and they called it as Cox’s Bazar. Now
It is one of the most visited tourist spot in
Bangladesh.

Bakkhali River on the north and East, Bay of Bengal in the

29. History
Kuakata came from the Bengali language
'Kua' which means “Well” . It was made on
the sea side by the Rakhine settlers for
gathering fresh water. Rakhine settlers came
here at 18th century after being banished
from Arakan now this is Myanmar by the
Mughals. Later on, it has become a heritage
of digging Well or 'Kua' in the Rakhaine
tribes for fresh drinking water.

about 70 Kilometres from the Patuakhali District
headquarters.The kuakata beach is 30 km long and 6 km
wide.
