Editor's Notes
Welcome everyone and thank you for taking the time for coming tonight. Introductions: Jeff and others to introduce themselves.
Jeff - We have purchased travel insurance for all students in case medical care is required.
Jeff - 2 Hospitals: One a 20 minute drive from Resort and a bigger hospital 2 hour drive away.
Jeff: I will turn it over to Jim now, who was on the trip last year and can walk you through the itinerary. Jim - Day 1: Group leaders/tour of resort, do’s & don’ts, team building, goals snack - get settled - dinner at 6:30 Activities planned by group leaders.
Jim - Small resort with 27 Huts, holding either 2 or 3 persons. The Mango House, on the property, is a large 2 story house with room for 6-10 people. Rooms have beds, bathrooms, fans and mosquito nets.
Jim - Students will be divided into 2 groups which will rotate in the two day program. All students will take part in the service learning project on Day 4/Wednesday. View from part of the dining area and looking out from some of the rooms.
Jim - Rooms are quite comfortable for 2 or 3 children. Fans, sunlight and mosquito nets are put up over the bed. Private island (at high tide) we might take advantage of during our trip.
Jim - Small local villages, living very minimally. Here the children are learning the Koran.
Jim - Thousands of crabs line the beach at low tide. Camping will take place around the trees. Picture on the right you are looking from the campsite/private beach across the inlet to the Mermaid Resort.
Jim - Local School will visit us at the Mermaid resort for games and activities. We will be bringing some hats, t-shirts and some supplies.
Jeff - During advisory we’ll remind the students that they can start thinking about what they might like to do for the talent show. Students can bring something for the show, but it has to fit inside their luggage.
Jeff - Parents can call reception to confirm time of arrival.
Jim - We will do a demo on packing for students during advisory. NewMarket has an outdoor sporting goods store. NOTE: Don’t mention the confusing information from footmarks on the sleeping bag. Just mention that we are working on a way to get bags for those who cannot find them.
Jeff - Please contact the MS Office in case of emergency. The first point of contact for any questions or concerns is Mrs. Lacy.
Jeff - Refer to the handout which contains information from on Malaria for you to make an informed decision as there are side effects to taking any medication.
Medications/Medicines need to be placed in a labeled with Grade 6, Student Name, medicine name, dosage, when to give to student. Sealable plastic bag then given to the School Nurse by Sunday, February 10.
Jeff - All of these have been completed and returned. If any information (phone #’s, names of emergency contact) have changed please let us know. *Jeff will talk about the Behavioral Expectations Name & shame missing forms.
Medications: name, grade, name of medicine, dosage (amount and frequency). Jackie Johnson will be dispensing the medications to students requiring them and that I have done this before. I will make sure I am clear on all medication procedures prior to our departure and will contact parents if needed?
