C. Disagreeing to the second argument
D. Disagreeing to the third argument
12. Cont. of The Block Pattern
Block 2
E. Your first argument
F. Your second argument
G. Your third argument
III. Conclusion (summarise your point of view/argument)
13. Point-by-point Pattern

14. Language Used in Argumentative Essays
Since you will be arguing your point of view, and being persuasive while at it,
there is a diction that you need to employ. Here are a few ideas:
“Although the writer’s views are interesting and important, she could have
presented …”
“Despite the fact that the 4th Industrial Revolution brings about
technological adavancements …”
“While it is true that genetically mdified food reduces hunger in the word,
very little evidence exists to support that it is completely safe …”
15. Tips:
• Use generalizing view e.g. people believe/consider …
• Avoid having strong feelings e.g. it is completely unbelievable that …
• Use linking words e.g. Therefore, however …focus on examples instead of
personal thoughts.
