4.
How are deserts formed?
large variations in temperature between
day and night put strains on the rocks
This causes them to consequently break
in pieces
Although rain seldom occurs in deserts,
there are occasional downpours.
Rain falling on hot rocks can cause
them to shatter into fragments
the desert floor is further eroded by the
wind.

It does rain in the desert, but not often. When it rains in a desert, a lot of water may
reach the ground in a short time.
RAIN IN DESERTS :
Some rain passes straight into the dry sand,
but the rest may form a temporary
river. Wadis, stream channels that are
normally dry, can quickly fill after heavy rain,
causing flash floods.
6.
A sandstorm or dust storm arises when wind blows loose sand and dust from a
dry surface. Clouds of sand or dust are often so dense that they obscure the sun.
Sandstorms :
A sandstorm can move whole sand dunes.
Sandstorms are common in large, dusty
deserts.
7. Animals is lizards, snakes and rodents
escape the hot rays by digging
underground burrows where they live.
They only come out at night to search
for food. Desert animals must live on as
little water as possible.
Camels survive in hot deserts by storing
water in body fat in their humps. Like
other desert animals, the camel loses very
little water in its wastes i.e.
(urine and faeces).
