Artificial intelligence is advancing at an incredibly rapid pace. It's set to disrupt a number of industries. Will you lose your job to a robot? Do we need to be concerned?
2. Summary
● As technology improves, including
robotics and Artificial Intelligence,
work previously performed by
humans is being done by robots and
computers.
● There is a concern among people that
robots will replace humans which will
create mass unemployment.
3. What jobs are in jeopardy?
● White-collar jobs, secretary jobs, lawyers and administrative jobs are
in jeopardy to varying degrees.
○ More importantly, all tasks with finite decision-making will be
replaced by automation.
● According to the documentary, creative jobs are safer.
○ All jobs will be impacted by automation to some degree even
creative jobs like musicians1 and artists.
4. How soon will change happen
and what will you do?
● Change will happen slower than
we think.
● I will continue to develop soft
skills and decision making – tasks
humans are uniquely capable of
doing. Trying to predict the future
is stupid.2
5. Education
Yes. The education system is broken and nearly obsolete. We need to focus
on fundamentals and ensuring that everyone has a very solid
understanding of the basic fundamental principles at work in universe and
the world. Then, we should encourage experimentation early on so that
kids can find their passion and then they can expand beyond the
fundamentals in those areas. Also, we should teach meditation, yoga,
healthy diets and exercise, how to be happy, how to have healthy
relationships, etc.3
6. Are you ready for AI to make
decisions?
● Yes. Robots (computers) are better at making some decisions better
than humans. That should be embraced.
7. Do robots/AI mean more jobs
or less jobs?
● More. It already has. In fact, it’s the only way to increase jobs. Not
embracing technology will create mass unemployment.4 (no citation
should be necessary because this is just basic logic and economic
theory, but I found an article explaining this very simple and easy
concept that all people should understand anyways.)
