INTERESTS
CRICKET
Cricket is my passion and has giving me many opportunities to meet different people
from all walks of life and to travel. It has made me more independent and encouraged
me to work within a team.
Cricket is a game of strategy and I enjoy the challenge of trying to find out what the
other teams strategy is and trying to combat it by constantly changing mine. It is a
mind game where you learn a lot about others and more about yourself, being flexible
and adapting under pressure.
In 2015 Martizburg College X1 travelled to Sri Lanka. It was an amazing tour where
I not only learnt how to play under extreme conditions which we are not used to but I
learnt about a different culture and way of life. It opened my mind up and showed me
how diverse the world we live in is.
TRAVEL
In 2014 and 2015 I have travelled abroad. Initially with the Leopards Cricket
Team(14 men representing SA to sporting schools. It was not only exciting to travel
but it taught me a lot about the way we are so different in many ways to other people
in other countries. It opened my eyes to how many opportunities there are in the
world today and has encouraged me to be diverse in everything I do.
OTHER INTERESTS
Playing golf and surfing is what I do in my free time. It’s time out with my friends
and I still enjoy the competitiveness without the pressure to perform.
BOARDING
Being a boarder has given me the opportunity to be independent from an early age.
Making life long friendships and being sociable in an environment that encourages
you to participate with individuals from all walks of life. I have learnt about “grit”,
sticking it out to the end and dealing with difficult situations and bearing out hard
times and figuring out how to cope on my own. It has made me understand who I
really am and what my strengths are and how through persistence and determination I
have been able to achieve a great deal with both academics and sport. It has been an
adventure and has stood me in good stead helping give me a clear idea of my future
and what I want to achieve academically and on the sports front.
