2. Jean Paul Gaultier started his career at a very young age, 18.
His first job was with Pierre Cardin from whom he learnt that
“everything was passible” in terms of creation and materials.
Gaultier is known for his eclectic mixes, he has different
inspirations each collection and he normally has a very diverse design
mix, but some of the traits he repeats are: fetischitic clothes and corsets,
navy inspiration, mix between female and male styles, urban art, tribes
and cultures. I´ve analysed his past 14 pret a porter collections and the
past 6 Couture collections and I came up with my own conclusions
about the kind of materials he normally uses, he always choses a see-
through fabric and in most of the collections I was also able to find
leather and fur.
I´ve been to Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition and I could see his
most important works displayed at Grand Palais in Paris. He was the
designer of Madonna´s famous corsets that could show exactly his
passion of mixing feminine and masculine style.
About the chosen Brand – Jean Paul Gaultier
3. Jean Paul Gaultier brand was my initial point of the creative
process as I´ve axplained on the previous slide. After doing a lot of
research about the brand I´ve decided to inspire myself in my
neighbourhood in Lisbon. Gaultier used to inspire himself a lot in cities,
he has collections about Paris and London. My inspiration was Lisbon,
but mainly the Expo neighbourhood, the Oriente Station and the Vasco
da Gama Tower.
I chose pastels colors because Gaultier normaly uses pastels
and water colors in his collections. As materials, I chose something
imitating real leather, normally Gaultier would use real leather for his
corsets. I wanted to have the “plastic” look that leather has, so I chose
napa.

14. As a comercial product I´ve decided I wanted a tank top,
so I´ve started to design different ideas of tank tops combining
the same materials I´ve used on the corset. I wanted the
comercial product to have some simalarities with the conceptual
one in terms of material and usage, that´s why it was a top and I
used eyelets on it.
When I was making my sketches, I had different ideas of
lashing the ribbon. I chose a very simple design but I think it
was the most matching one with the corset cause it would cause
the same ribbon ending as the corset had.
