1. ANNOUNCEMENTS
JOIN US FOR COMPASSION CAMP AT FPCAǧ TODAY
At Compassion Camp, families with children will explore what it means to
change the world with loving-kindness: sharing compassion for ourselves,
others, and the world. We will hear Bible stories, learn music, play games,
make art, try yoga, and do mission together. Most of all, we will rejoice
as we learn and grow and practice compassion together! Come today
at 4:30- 6:30 pm and/or June 26th, 4:30- 6:30 pm. Each afternoon will
include dinner.
RACE AND RACISM IN THE HISTORY OF FPCA
During the Faith Formation hour 9:45 am today.
As we continue a series of educational classes organized by the Racial Justice Task Force, join Rev. Patrick Johnson
for an exploration of how the congregation of FPCA has been complicit in and resisted systemic racism during its
226-year history.
RACIAL JUSTICE BOOK CLUB
SATURDAY, JUNE 18
The Racial Justice Book Club meets via Zoom at 10:00 am. Please email Tracey Gruver
at traceygruver@gmail.com to keep up with any changes to the schedule. On Saturday,
June 18th, we will discuss On Juneteenth - by Annette Gordon-Reed
FAITH FORMATION, JUNE 19
Fellowship Hall 9:45 am
On June 19th, Shannon will lead the class, and we will begin six weeks of exploring
reϐlections and writings by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. This class will be reϐlective and
discussion-based, with the goal of helping us be people who live our faith in daily life.
Bonhoeffer’s example of living at the intersection of scripture and culture can inspire us
to do the same. This will go through July. No class on July 3rd.
MONTREAT CONFERENCE CENTER’S HYMN SING
After a hiatus during the past two summers, Montreat Conference Center’s hymn-sing season returns for in-person
gatherings on Sundays at 7:00 pm in Convocation Hall in the Assembly Inn. A stellar group of musicians will lead
our hymn-sings, with a few of our own coming soon:
• Mel Bringle and Eric Wall today,
• Jeremy Roberts on June 19th and July 10th
• Kyle Ritter and Chris DeJarnett on June 26th.
The leadership at FPCA is working hard to connect and re-connect people into the mission of God. Part of that
is knowing how you want to connect and what opportunities that you want to hear about. If you can please use
the attached interest form or go to your Realm Proϐile on you Realm App or computer and make the selections, it
will help us connect you to the ministries that most interest you. Clicking on one of these opportunities is not a
commitment, but an indication that you would like to know when we have possible places of engagement. If you
would like help to understand how to use Realm, please reach out to Shannon at sjordan@fpcasheville.org!
2. ANNUAL CHURCH RETREAT
September 30-October 2 at Montreat Conference Center--only 30 minutes away.
The FPCA Retreat has a long history of fun, learning, activities, and rest. With a variety
of contemplative and worship activities, everyone can ϐind a way to connect more deeply
with God and one another. (And you really don’t want to miss the variety show!)
There are two main options for attending: Overnight or Commuter. Overnight costs
include two nights at Assembly Inn, retreat activities, three meals
Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. Commuter costs include retreat
activities, and three meals Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. The
deadline for overnight registrations is June 27th and our commuter
deadline is August 8th. Go to www.fpcasheille.org/fpca-retreat.
HELP NEEDED FOR OUR NEW AFGHAN NEIGHBORS
The church is supporting two Afghan families as they settle in the US. The ϐirst family is two brothers and the
second family is a husband and wife. Their needs are ϐluctuating, but if you would like to help, please sign up to be
on the Afghan Neighbors Group in Realm and look for needs posted as they become known. Most of the needs now
center on providing transportation, but that will change over time. Thanks for considering helping these families.
Volunteers have found this to be an enriching experience. For questions, please call Randy Fluharty (828-423-
