Wholesale, along with some warehousing). Famous Software: (Accounting,Inventory and Shipping software for
produce). John Deere: proprietary software programs circa, 2000.
• While my education is in accounting, I have always maintained control of the finances in all my endeavors. In the
greenhouse,I only maintained CEO level activities. I have been on several boards and organizations and typically am
appointed the Treasurer. I have a unique ability to recognize “bad” numbers in financial statements, once I am familiar
with the operation I am analyzing.
3. • I have performed some forensic accounting work for a local firm who was having some fraud going on and I was able
to reconstruct what had happened and set up a new systemfor them.
• I am always looking to devise a more efficient way to perform an operation. I never stop looking for more efficient
methods to save money and/ormake the work required easier for the people performing whatever task was in question.
I enjoy building spreadsheetsto break down unit costing for pricing and general cost of production.
• I am a “big picture person” and have started and built three completely new and non-related businesses. Ienjoy
project management even though I have not been academically trained for it, but have a lot of practical experience with
it. I enjoy a challenge and like the variety of operations throughout the season that my prior businesses have required.
• My most recent project was a 24 acre hydroponic greenhouse that I built and ran with a group of investors.
Unfortunately, we could not compete with foreign competition that was highly subsidized by their governments and an
industry where foreign acreage had increased by a factor of 10 over the 12 years (3,000 to 30,000) that I was involved.
This venture was funded by debt. The greenhouse operated profitably in all but one year, 2012, except for debt service.
That was in the face of massive increases in governmental controls (and expense) after the Mexicans sent bad pro duct
into the USA and the Jensen Cantaloupe issues of 2006 and 2012. The price of tomatoes decreased every year for 10
years, until rising slightly in 2013. Pricing and foreign competition made it difficult to keep up with debt service,
resulting in our decision to sell the business to a foreign entity.
