2. Electronic Music refers to the music produced by synthesizers and
other electronic instruments and devices. It employs electronic musical
instruments and electronic music technology in its production.
Electronic music is one of the largest developments of 20th –
century music. Composers of electronic music searched for a new
technical resources and modes of expression. They also sought to
liberate themselves from the main Classical-romantic tradition of tonal
thinking and to reconstruct their thinking along new lines.

composer born in Paris of a Corsican family,
but his youth was spent in Italy. He was one of
the major prophets of the new music after
World War II.
Varese pioneered Electronic music and
combined electronically generated sounds and

His compositions include Vision and Prayer

Reflections for Piano and Synthesized Tape,
and A Solo Requeim,, for soprano and two
pianos. His Piano Quartet was premiered at a
concert in honor of his 80th birthday.

art music. He explored mixed media and the
possibilities of multichannel tape interacting with live
performers and theatrical forms. He avidly adopted
cutting-edge technologies, working with magnetic
tape and prototype synthesizers.
His popular works include: Bye, Bye Butterfly (an
electronic work), Horse Sings from Cloud (uses
accordion and voice), Lear(involves deep listening),
Rattlesnake Mountain, Mnemonics III, and A Little
Noise in the System.
