Esrah Kayed did a senior grad project at a daycare working with 5-6 year olds. Over three days, she got to know the children, read them a storybook which they were distracted from, did exercises and watched a movie with them. On the third day, the children enjoyed painting pictures of what makes them happy like mothers, gardens, and rainbows, and Esrah tried to teach them how to write their names. Esrah reflected that working with the children was a great experience, though sometimes difficult to keep their attention.

1. Introduction
Hello, my name is Esrah Kayed, for my
senior grad project I worked with
young children at a daycare called,
“A place where your child can learn”.

2. Experience
• It was my first day, I got to meet all the little
children in the group I choose to do my
project with five to six year olds. The first day
there I talked about myself and asked about
their names and got to know a little about
what their daily routines are and schedule of
what they do.

3. The second day there I gathered the children
together and read them a book called
“Hercules” they didn’t pay much attention
about it because they kept asking to see the
pictures the whole time of me reading for
them. We exercised together after sitting for a
while talking about the story. Then took a little
break and ate some snacks. We watched a
movie together and took a nap.

4. • The next day, we all felt like having some
fun, we put up some long white papers and
got different colors of paint and decided to
paint about what makes each happy and
smile. The children painted their
mothers, some painted gardens, some
painted rainbows, and some just mixed
colors together. After that we sat together
and tried to teach them how to write their
names, which is really important.

5. Summary/ Reflection
• This was honestly a great experience for me,
I’ve always wanted to try to work with little
children and have fun with them. They were a
little pain, in ways where they wouldn’t listen
and it would be hard sometimes to get their
attention.
