Case #1- Swisher Hygiene, Inc. …. a Company positioning for growth.
Situation: The Company was a slow growth and privately-held business with plans to ‘go Public’ and execute an aggressive M&A program.
Challenge: I was recruited to build the Accounting organization into a team capable of supporting the Company’s growth plans.
Actions: (1) Recruited the organization needed to support Company growth in revenue from $60 million to $300 million.
(2) Worked with the operating team to define system needs. Collaborated with accounting organization to implement the needed systems.
(3) Ensured the systems and controls were in place to support the Company’s acquisition plan.
Results: (1) Grew accounting team from 3 to 25 associates.
(2) Integrated 70 acquired businesses into the Company ERP in a 12 month period.
Case #2- SUSS MicroTec Inc. …a Company without a plan.
Situation: The Company had experienced a 3 year business downturn with revenue dropping from $125 million to $33 million and pre-tax income dropping from $15 million to a loss of $12 million.
Challenge: I was recruited to develop a business plan that would turn the business around.
Actions: (1) Formed a business strategy team staffed with all levels of the organization and developed turnaround plan. Presented the plan to the organization achieving consensus. Established KPI’s. Decentralized management responsibility and assigned responsibility for the plan’s execution . Plan included initiatives to drive revenue, reduce expenses, expand margins and reduce investment in working capital.
(2) Identified an opportunity for the business to enter the Wafer Bonder market. Developed business plan. Won board approval. Defined product requirements. Developed leading edge product offering and launched business in less than 1 year.
Results: (1) Revenue grew from $33 million to $78 million. Reduced the break-even point by 40% and achieved sustained profitability. Working capital initiatives reduced DSO by 50% and Inventory by 35%. Improved product lead times by 4 to 6 weeks.
(2) The Wafer Bonder business achieved marketplace success and acceptance. In less than 3 years SUSS controlled 40% market share.
