A popular productivity web
application

that automates your daily
repetitive tasks via Applets.

An Applet contains simple
conditional statements

connecting two services

using a trigger,
the this part

and an action,
the that part.

Let’s begin creating
your first Applet!

On your desktop,
open your favorite browser like
Google Chrome

Google Chrome home page is
shown

On the address bar, enter
https://ifttt.com/

Then press Enter on your
keyboard

IFTTT home page is shown

Sign up for an account, click
Sign up button

On the sign up page

Enter your email

Enter your password

Click Sign up button

IFTTT dashboard is shown

With your email signed in

Let’s explore the
different parts of
the application

Discover menu and page

Search menu and page

My Applets menu and page

Click the down pointing
arrow head

This is the Username
dropdown menu

The dropdown menu contains
the following options:

New Applet
used to create a new Applet

Services
used to view available services

Settings
used to update account settings

Sign out
used to sign out your account

Since your account is new,
no Applet is available yet

To create one

click either New Applet
from the dropdown menu

or the My Applets main menu

If via the My Applets menu,
this page is shown

Click New Applet button

New Applet page is shown

To set up your trigger

Click +this

Enter the service name on the
Search services bar

For example, type facebook

The searched service
automatically appears below

Or scroll down to find the service

Select Facebook as trigger service

IFTTT will require you to connect
to your Facebook account

Click Connect button

A pop-up message appears

Type your Facebook email or
phone number

Type your Facebook password

Click Log In button

Click Continue as <Name>

Click Not Now

You are redirected to
Choose trigger page

Click New photo post by you
with hashtag trigger

Complete trigger fields
page is shown

Enter your chosen Hashtag

Example #summer

Click Create trigger button

You are redirected to this page

Your trigger setup is now
complete

It is now time to setup the action

Click +that

Select your service either
through Search services

or by scrolling down

Click Twitter as action service

IFTTT will require you to connect
to your Twitter account

Click Connect button

A pop-up message appears

Type your Twitter
username or email

Type your Twitter password

Click Authorize app button

Wait until your Twitter
account is connected

You are redirected to
Choose action page

Click Post a tweet with image
action

Complete action fields
page is shown

You can add ingredients to the
action fields

Click the +Ingredient button

The following options are shown

Select CreatedAt

CreatedAt ingredient is added

Click Create action button

Review and finish page is shown

Once you finish reviewing your
Applet

You can toggle
on/off the
Receive notifications
when this Applet runs
option

For this tutorial, keep it ON

Click Finish button

Success message is shown

HOORAY!!!
Your Applet is now complete!

Congratulations!

You can manage your Applet by
doing the following:

1. Switching
the Applet
on/off

Click the switch to turn it off

The Applet is now OFF

Click the switch to turn it
back on

The Applet is now ON

2. Check if the
Applet
is working

Click the Check now button

Wait until it finishes checking

Success message is shown

3. Configure the
Applet’s
settings

Click the configure button

Inside the configure page, you
can do the following:

a. Update Applet’s description

b. View Applet’s activity log

Click View activity log

Applet’s activities are shown

c. Toggle on/off Receive
notifications when this Applet runs

On
Off

d. Update the hashtag

Please note that configuration
options varies

depending on the trigger type
selected

e. Update Tweet text ingredients

f. Update Image URL ingredients

g. Save change/s made

Click Save button

Success message shown
after saving

h. Delete the Applet

Click Delete button

Pop-up message appears to
confirm deletion

If you want to confirm delete,
click OK
BUT…

You are not going to delete the
Applet you created

So click Cancel button

Before ending this
tutorial

Let’s check if the Applet you
created is working

Remember your Applet’s
condition?

In your Facebook account make a
photo post with #summer

Open your Facebook account

In the home page, click
Photo/Video

Select the photo you want to
upload from your computer

Click Open button

Say something about the photo,
and include #summer

Click Post button

Your photo post with #summer is
posted successfully in Facebook

Open your Twitter account
Check if same photo is posted

The photo is posted as well in
Twitter

There you have it!

You have successfully created
your first Applet in IFTTT!

It’s now your turn to create more
Applets
