4. Introduction
• Animal behavior is a fascinating
subject that explores the ways in
which animals interact with their
environment and each other.
• Through studying animal behavior,
scientists gain insight into the
evolution of different species and
can even apply this knowledge to
human behavior.
6. Stimulus
A stimulus is a type of information that causes
a reaction or change in an organism. Hunger is
an example of a stimulus. Stimuli can be
internal or external.
7. Innate Behavior
An innate behavior develops without depending on
learning or experience. An example of this would be
a newborn whale being able to swim without having
to learn how.
10. • A baby yawning for the first time.
• Young dolphins watching adults stir up food along the ocean floor and
mimicking the behavior.
• Gazelle running away from a cheetah.
• Crocodiles gathering in a river at the same time every year during the
zebra migration.

11. Migration
• Migration is the seasonal
movement from one place to
another. Monarch butterflies
cannot survive cold weather,
so they migrate south to a
warmer climate in the winter
12. Hibernation
• Hibernation is a period of
inactivity and decreased
body temperature that some
animals experience in winter.
Some frogs can be frozen in
water and go into
hibernation to survive the
winter.
13. Estivation
• Estivation is a period of
inactivity experienced during
hot and dry summers. North
American desert tortoises
will estivate underground to
avoid the heat in the
summer months.
15. • Grey Whales move between cold waters where they feed, to warm
waters where they give birth.
• Las ballenas grises se mueven entre aguas frías donde se alimentan, a
aguas cálidas donde dan a luz.
16. • A lungfish burrowing into the mud when the water dries up in the
pond.
• Un pez pulmonado excavando en el lodo cuando el agua se seca en el
estanque.
17. • Canadian geese flying north in the summer to rich feeding grounds.
• Gansos canadienses que vuelan hacia el norte en el verano para
encontrar ricas zonas de alimentación.
18. • Polar bear mothers creating a den and becoming very inactive during
the winter months with their cubs.
• Madres de osos polares que crean una madriguera y se vuelven muy
inactivas durante los meses de invierno con sus cachorros.
21. ACTIVITY #2
• Based on the video which other animal behaviors exists?
• Make a mind map on animal behavior with a brief description and
example.
• Write down 5 animals that you like and investigate one behavior of
each of those Animals.
