Project: Coursework
Third year 2015
The brief called for the interplay of five 40 ft shipping containers to create a typology
for shared graduate student accommodation to be adapted in various campuses
across the country.
Shipping containers provide a low cost cost, quick-construction solution for the
deficit in student accommodation crippling public universities.
The proposed design makes use of a module of overlapping containers to house
shared spaces in the ‘overlap’ and private spaces on the ‘arms’.

5. b. MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT

6. Location: Ndia Kuu Street
Old Town Mombasa
Project: Coursework
Fourth year 2016
The brief called for a mixed use residential development in this conservation area
that is fit for its function and respects the traditional Swahili architecture exhibited in
Old Town Mombasa.
The development houses retail shops, a restaurant, basic amenities and two and
three bedroom apartments with a rooftop swimming pool.
The swahili constants maintained include the boriti ceilings, covered balconies and
mashrabiya screens allowing the building to respect the street elevations.

Location: Losai Road, Ngara
Nairobi
Project: Final Year Project
Sixth year 2019
The centre is designed to provide opportunities for organized activities and events,
promote physical wellness for all ages and abilities and to promote neighbourhood
living in an urban area.
Sited at the edge of Ngara area the centre becomes a place for inter-community
interaction, patronized by residents from Ngara, Pangani, Kariokor and Eastleigh.
In addition to the articulated outdoor spaces, the centre also assimilates the
neighbouring New Lunar Amusement Park, becoming a lucrative feature.

The brief called for a shopping centre off the busy Nairobi-Namanga Road in Kitengela.
The neighbouring KCA Univervisity and hotels, among residential units, creates ready
market for the shopping centre.
The client wanted an inviting design to customers and shop owners alike.
Using shipping containers ensures a low-cost and quick-contruction option for the
client.
