5. Perforated Metal Hole Patterns
Round Hole – Most popular due to versatility and
broad selection of gauges, diameters, and material
choices for customization.
Square Hole – Sturdy and easy to maintain.
Allows for greater pass through of air and
material.
Slotted Hole – More oblong and look like an ova or
rectangle when custom punched. Very flexible pattern
type that allows material to be formed into unique
shapes.Custom / Ornamental
7. Expanded Metal Overview
• Produced from a single sheet of material so there are no
welds or mechanical bonds.
• Higher strength to weight ratio than sheet metal of
identical alloy.
• Allows for further processing and fabrication.
• Less expensive than most alternatives used for similar
applications.
* All types can withstand 90 degree bend within ¼” inside
radius with no breakage.
8. Expanded Metal Types
Standard / Regular / Raised – Easy to control
percentage of open area and meet application needs
by altering pattern size and/or strand width.
Flattened – Cold rolled leaving a flat, smooth
surface. Typically about 5% lighter than standard
allowing for more agility in regard to potential
applications.
Grating – Heavier than other two types. Typically
used when application requires a more durable
surface for items such as stairs, platforms, etc.
12. FRP (Fiberglass) Grating
Light weight, high strength to weight ratio,
corrosion resistant, with exceptionally long life in
use
Types:
• Molded
• Pultruded
