2. ● Galileo Galilei was the first to observe the rings of
Saturn in 1610 using his telescope, but was
unable to identify them.
● Christiaan Huygens – the first person to propose
that there was a ring surrounding Saturn, in 1655
● Giovanni Cassini – discovered the separation
between the A and B rings (the Cassini Division),
in 1675
3. ● Saturn is named after the
Roman God of Agriculture.
● Saturn has been called, “The
Jewel of the Solar System.
● Saturn is distinguished by its
beautiful rings - made of
chunks of ice, rocks and dust.
4. Facts●Saturn is the second largest planet in our solar system
●It is the 6th
planet from the sun
5. ● Saturn is a gas giant, it is composed of mostly gases – Helium and 96%
Hydrogen
● Which means, if you tried to step in Saturn, you wouldn’t be able to
because it has no surface to support you.
6. ● Saturn's diameter is about 72,000 miles
● Nine times the size of Earth.
● If Saturn was hollow, you could fit 764 earths inside it

9. ● Saturn has a hot interior, reaching
11,700 °C at its core.
● It has 53 named moons out of 69
● Saturn takes 10,759 Earth days (or
about 29 1⁄ 2 years), to finish one
revolution around the Sun. Earth
is 365 days (1year).
● A day on Saturn is just a little
more then 10 hours long
10. Saturn has a total of 7 main rings.
Saturn’s rings are alphabetized in the
order they were discovered.
11. The D Ring is the innermost and very faint.
The C Ring is a wide but faint ring located inward of
the B Ring.
The B Ring is the largest, brightest, and most
massive of the rings.
The A Ring is the outermost of the large, bright rings.
The F Ring is the outermost discrete ring of Saturn
and perhaps the most active ring in the Solar
System, with features changing on a timescale of
hours.
The G Ring is a very thin, faint ring about half-way
between the F Ring and the beginning of the E Ring.
The E Ring is the second outermost ring and is
extremely wide.
12. The sounds of the rings of
Saturn captured by
Voyager 2
All these sounds were
recorded while Voyager 2
was passing at 110 000
km of Saturn's system,
and assembled without
manipulation
