We were given a task to create an advertisementabout a product.
Our group chose the product McDonald’s which was our original
idea as we had the most ideas for that than any other product. We
first decided what our advert would be and created a storyboard
for it. The story was that we had someone by themselves who was
feeling bad and then they had a burger to improve their day and
became popular. We realized it went far too much against the
conventions of a normal advert and would not be a correct
representation of McDonald’s. So we changed the idea as we had
some negative feedbackof the idea from our tutor so we had a
more realistic advert that follows the ideologyof the McDonald’s
adverts that have come before. So now we created a slogan for
the advert which is similar to previous ones but is also a new
concept, which is “Wheneveror wherever you go there is always a
McDonald’s”. So we started to get ready to film by assigning the
differentjobs to our group members.I was directorwith Emre and
saw over the shots as Emre was the main character. We also had
to have a target audience so we chose the demographic which
was mainly teenagers which is E and our advert would pander to
that audience. Also our tagline will apply to them as a teenager as
they would want to go McDonald’s at any time during the day and
want one as close as possible. For the practical lessons I was in all
the lessons so I assisted with all the filming for the advert. I helped
decide where to film the adverts which would also suit our idea for
the advert and be possibleto actually film at that location. WE shot
in differentlocations which follows the conventions of previous
McDonald’s adverts which don’t only take place in the restaurant.
Comparing our advert to a previous one I looked at was “first day”.
Which is about a person’s first day at work. It is a lot differentto
our advert as our one is montage of eating McDonald’s in many
differentplaces while this advert only takes place in two settings
(the office and McDonald’s). Their advert begins with a shot of the
main protagonistof the advert while ours begins with a shot of the
logo. We chose to start with the logo as it would instantly attract
the audience as they already know what it is. As usually in most
McDonald’s that are based in everyday life they follow the
convention of the main actor to walk into McDonald’s at the end.
An example of non-verbal communication we discussedwas
making sure we smiled when we ate the burger so we look happy
as if the actor would look gloom while eating the burger it would be
odd and loose the audience’s attention if they did. Another
example was when a group was filming I have the nod to say that
the group was doing well while they were filming their advert and
my nod gave them the acknowledgmentto continue.
