2. Why does it resonate for you?
From living in Hawaii to moving to Washington, I noticed
what difference simple acts of sustainable lifestyle can
change in the world. We don’t take note of the impact we
make on the environment by littering, leaving the water
running, or driving one person to a car.
We can all help make this world a better place, whether it is
recycling, drinking out of reusable water bottles, or even
carpooling.
In Target 7.A, UN MD states “Forests are a safety net,
especially for the poor, but they continue to disappear at an
alarming rate”
3. How can your interest be applied
locally?
Washington is lush with greenery, and to see that
diminish would take away not only its beauty, but its
benefit.
The trees offer oxygen, which also offsets the carbon
emissions from our cars.
To avoid taking down trees would be ideal, however,
planting more trees will help future generations.
I would begin by urging local lawmakers to consider
sustainable options, as well as encouraging those
around me and my community to consider recycling or
even donating to those in need.
4. Where can you make the greatest
contribution?
The greatest contribution I can make is starting a recycling
program at my work.
I work at Starbucks where we recycling cardboard, but
neglect to recycle plastics. All of those plastics are then
tossed in the garbage, which not only takes up space, but is
also no benefit to the environment when it is dumped.
We waste a lot of plastic that could otherwise be recycled.
Taking time to recycle will not only help the environment,
but encourage others to go home and do the same. Every
little piece makes a difference.
5. Is there a feature of social media that can be
uniquely applied to this goal?
Another contribution I can make is raising awareness
about these issues is with my voice
Facebook is a great way to advocate a donation link or
even a GoFundMe, but for charity. Word of mouth is
powerful, whether it is in the form of a post or even a
text message to friends. Raising awareness of the little
things we can do to help conserve water or recycle will
make a big difference.
Instagram with its captivating photos can draw
attention on the less fortunate with a description on
how to help out and a link to donate.
